    Hi. Anyone know how much beer I can bring from the US flying into France? I've gotten a couple answers. Anyone have recent experience with this?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

    I think there is no problem on the french side.
    Maybe it should be different with liquor but this is just beer. And you're limited with space in your bags.

    How many bottles you want to bring with you?

    I live in France and frequently bring 12-16 cans with me whenever I come back from the US. Sometimes a few bottles as well. It's never been an issue for me but I can't say I actually checked the law on this one.

    I flew in with a good amount in 2017. Must have been at least 8-10 cans and 8-10 bottles split between two standard sized bags.

    Here’s what you should know:

    Free import to passengers arriving from non-E.U. countries (including Canary Islands, Channel Islands): a. tobacco products, for passengers aged 17 years and over:

    - 200 cigarettes; or - 100 cigarillos (max. 3g each); or - 50 cigars; or - 250g of smoking tobacco; or - a proportional mix of these products; b. alcoholic beverages, for passengers aged 17 years and older: - 1 litre of spirits over 22%; or - 2 litres of a dessert wine not exceeding 22% and sparkling wine; and - 2 litres of table wine;

    Unfortunately it’s not clear or detailed about beer precisely but hope this helps!

    I traveled back to France from NY last April with 52 cans and 6 50cl bottles of beers splitted in my 2 luggages, found a note from TSA in one of them when I arrived home saying that for security purposes they opened my bagage to check’ but they didn’t seized any single beer.

    as long as it is not above 20% abv , you can bring with you as much beer as you want.

    If my maths are correct 52 x 0,473 L + 6 x 0,5 L = 27,596 L

    For the EU 16 litres per person is the correct answer! But with beer it is normally not a problem, if you exceed this limit a bit. As long as the x-ray/millimeter wave scan (they scan luggage upon arrival before being delived - if they have enough personell working...) doesn't show suspicious bottle-types or high ABV stuff (that might be mistaken as Wine or liquor), you won't get a problem at all. They normally do these scans for drugs and tobacco-smugglers... beer is not in their focus...
