    Hello everyone,

Curious if anybody has experience bringing beer from Ireland to the USA and USA to Ireland? How much can I bring? Is it better to declare it or pretend it's not there? Other tips for packaging?

    Hey,

From the US to Ireland it's 16L and within the EU it's 100L of beer - http://www.citizensinformation.ie/e...eland/customs_regulations_for_travellers.html

From Ireland to the US I think it's fine but over $100 seems to be the amount that you're supposed to declare - someone from the US could probably give a more accurate explanation of this. Unless you're bringing a massive amount you should be fine.

I've brought some both ways a couple of times recently enough and had no issues - I didn't declare it but I wasn't over the limits either way.

For packaging without buying specific shipping gear I use a small hard case, wrap all bottles in bubble wrap and line the case with a couple of towels then pack it with some clothes too just so there's no real wiggle room. I usually put the small case inside a larger case (If I'm bringing two cases) just to add some extra protection.

Have had no issues going either way and no breakages - I have managed to bring back some great beers. Just checking through my photo's last year I brought back 31 cans and a bomber from NY to Dublin so it's no problem to bring a reasonable amount.

Thanks a ton. Got a few Diving Bells, Celebration Stout, and Two Hundred Fathoms I'm trying to bring back to Chicago for Christmas and want to bring back some bourbon county and other Chicago & Milwaukee beers I miss.

Any other special releases around Ireland you'd suggest bringing back?

No problem at all, happy to help out.

You've already picked up the ones that I'd be focusing on (Looking forward to getting my hands on this years 200 Fathoms) but these guys on Twitter are posting an updated list of special releases so might be worth keeping an eye on that as it's updating every couple of days - the Rum Barrel Aged Worlds End from Blacks should be a good one. Not Irish but Dark City from Northern Monk/Lervig I thought was very good if you haven't had it yet.

Lots of DIPA's seemingly getting released the last week or so from Rye River, Third Barrell, Rascals, O'Brother and I see Double Bunny from Kinnegar coming out this week also I'm sure Whiplash will have something new before Christmas if hops are your thing! I also see that Garage Beer Co from Barcelona are releasing some cans here this week - the stuff I've had from them in Spain was very good.
