Are they less passionate? Or are they simply not knowledgeable or experienced enough and unwilling to accept that?

Although, I guess you're right, if they were that passionate they'd have the drive to get more educated and fix their problems.

I believe that the 25 events limit is still on, but there's a caveat about whether or not it's an "event" in whether or not it was advertised. Also, no one seems to be checking on this stuff, or they're doing it quietly. I haven't heard about anyone getting in trouble lately.

Is the brewery listed here on BA? The reviews of the beers could be a good independent source of feedback.

Sounds like a business that was destined for failure from the beginning. Batches that need to be dumped should be very rare, but they need to be accounted for in the business plan. Breweries should start with a minimum of 6 months operating expenses ready to go and assume no income for a proper safety net. Brew good beer after that and it’s really not that difficult. If you don’t have the money, don’t open unless you’re prepared to lose it.

The problem here is the likelihood of an ego... if the taproom staff goes to the owner/brewer and says “you need to do ______ to fix ______ problem” I can’t imagine that will go over well with most people.

Yeah- to transform it from a brewery I'd never set foot in for one reason, to a brewery I'd never set foot in for another :grin:.

I get what you're saying...but I would think most brewers would/should listen to their bartenders as they're the ones dishing out the beer, and dealing with the customer issues first hand.

Knowledge and experience is zero. Anyone who knows how to make tea can learn to brew beer, shit I have even brewed beer. However brewing decent/good beer is another beast in my opinion. What I am saying here is not everyone should just go ahead and open up a brewery.
Now passion - I'm not sure where his passion lies. Its like he wants the fame without putting in the tedious work. It also doesn't help that they keep hiring other bartenders who know absolutely nothing about beer, and don't care to learn anything about it. It truly makes a big difference when you have employees who love beer, or are just starting out and they want to learn about beer.

There are a ton of breweries who definitely are in need of help. Get a hold of Jon Taffer .... Brewery Rescue

Ouch. Like watching kitchen nightmares. Couple puts all their money in, gets overwhelmed, quality goes down along with their business and blames something or someone else for their problems. What are the online reviews saying. Do they read them.

What you're seeing in the brewer seems to be a not unusual thing when an amateur brewer with only self-education and feedback from polite friends thinks he/she is qualified to brew professionally. Sometimes they even take their beers to festivals without realizing they've got flawed stuff on offer.

Especially if the guy is stressed and already overloaded and has no clue why.

Approach is key. Might be better to say something like - You might want to look at ________. I think there may be a problem there. I think I might have a solution if you are interested etc.

Reviews online have a lot to do with bartenders not knowing what they're are talking about, and flat beers, or glasses filled 3/4 with foam.
The brewer wanted to advertise that my buddy knew his shit and for everyone to come in and talk to him, but my buddy told them (in a nice way) that he didn't want his picture attached the the brewery on on the internet. I honestly think the only reason he is staying right now is because he needs the extra money and can't seem to find anything else that is within the industry besides jack and coke sports bars.
