If you are very close to those breweries, does it even matter what they bring??? I would be too busy drinking Tree House to worry about what the others brought...

Most of my friends really like craft beer, but only one of them is really into the rare stuff. I really don't care and neither does he. We both enjoy the social time. To me, beer is a social thing and you create real aficionados by letting them learn. You can go enjoy your Black Tuesday with one or two friends, I'd rather enjoy it with 8 and give them a chance to get into the really good stuff.

I brought a Victory at Sea to the last share I went to. Shelf beer? Yeah. Delicious? Yeah. The fact that no one had had it before, including myself, made me feel ok about bringing it, haha. Took a JK Reposé along, too, just in case they started throwing tomatos at me.

Been to shares where guys didn't bring anything, it's ok to share. If you got rare then you need a different kinda party.

Eh, tell them to bring a cheese plater next time. Many of the friends I have spend way to much time trading, I can't possibly keep up. Even though I do have a decent amount of out of state offerings that I pick up when I travel, and do host a bottle share once a month at a local bar. It is never a whales only thing, basically the only rules are support the bar/tip well and bring something the bar does not have. That is an incredibly low key share, and the rules are known up front. When I get invited to more "special" shares that I know I have nothing of real value, I just make a great meat and cheese plate from Houston Dairy Mades which has an awesome selection of different cheeses and cured meats. Always goes good with whales I can't possible obtain
