Had my first scare of a broken box in transit. Also, the first time using UPS (will never make that mistake again). Trade was for 3 BCBS, Night Shift Bean Porter, Galaxy DHFP, and Heavy Mettle. No info in tracking other than it was damaged and they would toss the broken goods and deliver the rest. Well it came delivered today and I expected the worst. To my surprise, only 1 BCBS bit the dust and the rest arrived! So relieved. Any other relief/horror stories anyone would like to relive?
For some reason UPS is more brutal than FedEx. I had a case shipped in from New York that arrived as a note saying it was destroyed. Fortunately it was also insured so the second time it made it.
Never had a broken box, but did have a styro 12 pack arrive earlier this week. Took the temp with IR thermometer at 30 degrees, but fortunately none froze. I have heard some stories of beer freezing in shipping.
My first beer trade was with jrnyc, and a bottle busted when it was out for delivery. Thought to myself- I'm never trading again. UPS shipped the box back, repackaged it better and down only 1 bottle. Guy at my store is looking at the return notice where the contents were now identified as "Alpine Beer Company", and asked if I wanted to ship it right back. I think I had a face like Fry: 'not sure if serious'.
My last trade had a notification that my package was damaged on the day it was supposed to be delivered. Had some ncie stuff in it... Cantillon Kriek, De Garde Cran Bu, Black Tuesday, Resolute + extras. Freaked out and called FedEx and they told me they were shipping it back to me and asked what was in it. I told them "yeast samples". Package arrived back at my place and turns out an extra broke and nothing else.. not sure if it froze and popped (was 1 degree that day).... but thank goodness that was it!!
I'm in a weird situation right now and I think UPS has me "up against the wall" - I shipped a very heavy box of beer to NY and was notified by my trading partner that he got a notification saying "damaged, item and empty box discarded" which freaked me out since we are looking at $130 of beer (including some semi-rare stuff). To make a long story short, I got a voicemail from my UPS store this morning saying "the center in NY called me and they said your items 'fell out' of the package and they can't locate them. They also mentioned that the box wasn't approved to hold that much weight, so no claim can be made (I tried to double box but didn't have the right size handy and I did put some of the beer in a box within the box....) but if you can give me a better description than just "car parts" (which is what I always say, or "oils" if it's a sloshy package) I can have them locate the items.....SO...I'm thinking that I should just shoot straight and hope that they let my partner come pick up whatever beer isn't damaged? Has anyone else been in this situation?
"The box isn't rated for that" sounds like total bullshit and I'd put in an insurance claim anyway and let them tell you 'No' more officially.
