Just reaching out to trusty BeerAdvocates about aging Black Ops from Brooklyn Brewing Company.

I might be able to get a few more bottles, but I'm curious as to how long anyone has aged this beer and which were the best stages. I just picked up BCBS the other day which is higher in ABV and you can age that only 5 years, but the yeast in Black Ops is used to long periods of cellaring, that's just my early take on it.

I'm pretty excited to have stumbled on this beer and I can't wait to try it! Share your comments below. Cheers!

    Thanks for the input!

I've had up to four year old Black Ops with fantastic results. I will be opening up my oldest (2008) alongside a 2015 on the 13th of December. I can not wait!

I think it needs a year minimum to let the champagne yeast settle. It's very effervescent and lively when fresh, almost too carbonated for my tastes.

I drank a 2009 Black Ops this past year and it was the best bottle of Black Ops I can remember drinking. I remember not being overly impresses when it was fresh, but it really surprised me when I revisited it after 5+ years. Not sure if it actually improved with age or if my tastes have changed, but the years of aging certainly did not hurt it at all.

I've had it up to 4 years old and all have been too effervescent. I wish the would make it without the champagne yeast. I don't buy it anymore...just too pricey for what it is.

I've been aging several bottles each year since 2010. I can't wait to try iout a vertical one year. I did open up a bottle from 2014 the other day since I found it on shelves still. It tasted better aged then fresh but that's how I feel about most Brooklyn beers like Monster and Black Chocolate Stout.

The 2009 bottle of Black Ops I drank side by side with a fresh one in 2014 was pretty tasty.

Plenty of 2014 BBO at almost every beer place here in NYC, along with its below average rating it has led me to believe this beer isnt worth buying let alone cellaring, it's about 25.99 a bottle...

I had two bottles of 2011 that I drank in Dec 2014 and then March 2015. I had these cellared because I bought 3 or 4 initially and did not really like it. It was thinner than I had hoped, I did not like the champagne yeast and I'm not willing to pay that money. The aging in my experience did not make the beer any better. As stated above by others I no longer buy this beer. If they changed the yeast I might give it a another shot. As a side note, they used champagne yeast in Cuvée Noire (not sure if it was the same yeast they use in Black Ops) but it was absolutely delicious. Wish I still had more of this laying around, and would recommend if you like black ops.

In my Wedding Limo, we passed around 8 bottles of champagne and not to my surprise they were gone with about 5 minutes left in the ride. So, I took out m 2013 Black OPs (2 years old at that point) and passed that bad boy around to keep the party going. It tasted sublime.

Also, OP, you're avatar is hilarious!

I spotted it at 2 different bottle shops in PA, one had a 2013 vintage. PA is difficult to find hard-to-find beers but it is getting better.

I pulled out my 2013 or 2014 recently, held off, and now putting it back out of harm's way toward the corner of the cellar, thanks you kind souls.
