It's going to be distributed, at least here in NJ. I don't know about other states. Pretty limited. I did my "preorder" for my store and was told it's 0 or 1.

    For a lager, meh.

They should be having a release party for it soon at the Brewery. If so, I'm sure it will be pretty readily available after at most stores - Brooklyn always makes a shit ton of their big bottles (even Black Ops).

We got it last week in GA. Pretty pricey bottle for a lager, we also got a keg and it wasn't much more than the case cost. It's "brewed to dopplebock intensity", 9%, I'll try it on draft then decide if it's worth a bottle.

We got a case in CT yesterday. Its 9% ABV and priced at about $12.99 for a 750ml.

Why should a lager cost any less than an ale?

Had it at a fest in Saratoga Springs a week or two back. Nothing really stood out as making it worth $13/btl.

I'd love to get a bottle of this. This is actually a 750ml I'd want to buy.

I didn't say that. I said for the price you can pay a little more for an entire keg, instead of 12 bottles. Therefore it's expensive.

12 bottles x 25.4oz is roughly 2.5 gallons. A keg is 15.5 gallons. You see the math? Even factoring in bottle cost, corks, etc that's still a lot of money for a bottle of anything. If the keg was double the price I wouldn't have pointed it out, but it's only $20 more.

Tried the keg today. It's not a dopplebock. Not sweet, not dark, nothing like any dopplebock I've ever had. It's just a big ABV lager.

It's called a "doppelbock version of the original Brooklyn Lager, 8.6 per cent alcohol" in this New Yorker article, by the reporter who went to the release party at Milton Glaser's studio.

Brooklyn's own website calls it "a double bock version of Brooklyn Lager" and the rear label itself says a bit less specifically that it is "...brewed to a doppelbock intensity".

So if there's a confusion over what style of beer it is or was meant to be, Brooklyn's contributing to that confusion.

I picked up a couple at Andersons in Columbus on Monday.

Partially right on the doppelbock, on the description on the label
its says "brewed to a doppelbock intensity and refermented in the bottle"
