As said, it's "brewed to a dopplebock intensity", but it is not dark or sweet like any dopplebock I've ever had. It's very light color, and honestly, I was seriously unimpressed with it. Pretty bland in taste and lacking any real flavor.

Well, I could see Garrett Oliver for one not wanting to call it an "Imperial Vienna Lager"

In the pre-Prohibition era, that style beer was more commonly called "Wiener Beer" by US brewers, so how 'bout "Double Wiener" for this Brooklyn Anniversary beer's style?

Vienna Lager definitely fits the bill better than dopplebock.

I paid $16 for it yesterday. Sounds like I should have done my homework. No exciting reviews yet...

Isn't a doppelbock just a strong lager anyway?

Dopplebocks, by design, are much sweeter and maltier and have a flavor that no basic lager can touch. They're a version of a strong lager, but a much better version. This beer literally tastes like Brooklyn's regular lager with more ABV. I'm truly unimpressed.

Doppelbocks actually have a pretty big range in terms of color. They can range from a gold to a dark brown.

By hoppy are you referring to hop flavor/aroma or bitterness or both?

Ale Yeah Roswell is where I work, we have it on shelf. I also saw/heard it was received at Mink's, Tower, Green's, and Toco Hills. Ale Yeah Decatur got it too but I can't check with them yet to see if it's still in stock. Pretty wide distro from what I'm seeing, should be anywhere with a good Brooklyn inventory. Outside of Atlanta, check with Jax's in Cumming or Five Points in Athens.

Cool man, thanks for the info. When I'm back stateside I'll have to check out Ale Yeah, heard good things. I live in Maysville when there, and love 5 Points in Athens. Will have to try it when back. Cheers!
