I'm gonna be on a bachelor party with approx 5-8 friends in August, and we're staying in Brooklyn. I've never been to Brooklyn, but I'm familiar w the amount of breweries that have popped up. Which breweries are best to stop by with a small group on a Saturday afternoon? I'm intrigued by Other Half, but don't know if Saturday's are overcrowded due to can releases. Thanks in advance for any and all info!!!
Does the bachelor like bbq? If you want to do OH, I would recommend going to OH, grabbing some beers there, and then walking to Hometown BBQ in Red Hook. If OH is too crowded for you, you could grab some growlers/cans, and head to the Red Hook ballfields. There are some tables in the back where you could have a nice little picnic. You could split the group up (half get bbq, half get beers). Also get some Steve's Key Lime Pie for dessert. I don't know what your group is like though. Just throwing out some ideas. These are probably about 10-15 min walks apart, so folks have to be comfortable walking in the heat. Could always take a Lyft or ferry out of Red Hook after tho.
You may get lucky with OH if they are able to finalize and open their new taproom before you arrive, but that seems unlikely. Also depends on if the weekend you are here is a collab release. Either way, probably going to be pretty busy. Folksbier is not far from OH, and could be an easy add-on to @Zurich's post above. I've been on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't packed, but still busy. Threes is not far from OH as well, but is going to be fairly busy -- not sure about reservations of any sort. If you're open to roaming further, Greenpoint Beer in Greenpoint would be good for a group with their long tables.
I'm planning a Brooklyn bar/brewery hop. Most from point to point are walkable or uberable. Brouwerij lane - greenpoint beer and ale - torst - beer street - interboro - kcbc (you can also add threes at F&K to the beginning of this) Or Folksbier - otherhalf - owl farm bar - strong rope - threes - gold star beer counter
After you get nice and blasted you should head towards Astoria/Long Island City and stop in Greenpoint Brewery, check out LIC BeerProject, Big aLICe, Astoria beer and cheese and SingleCut; and then to end the night properly for the bachelor, make a stop at Aces New York in LIC (heard it can be rough... but their instagram looks great.)
Will be in Brooklyn for one day... I have Greenpoint Beer, Interboro and KCBC planned. Is that good? Should I change it up?
Depends on the day of the week as Interboro is only open Th-Sun. Other than that, yes, that's a good plan and it keeps the travel distance relatively small, as compared to say hoofing it between OH, Interboro and crossing over into Queens for LIC.
Logistically, it makes sense, since all are on the L train. Depending on what type of other stuff you want to get into, I'd suggest starting or finishing with Greenpoint or KCBC, and going Interboro in the middle, just based on geography. If you're looking for hipster DIY-ish type stuff, KCBC is in the heart of of Bushwick, while GP is closer to Williamsburg and more conventional upscale-ish restaurants/bars/clubs. So if you want to follow up the brewery trips by going to a weird show or something, finish at KCBC, but if you're looking for something less weird, finish at Greenpoint.
Very achievable itinerary. FWIW, Brouwerij Lane & Torst are two great bars that are within walking distance of Greenpoint. They both usually have a good selection of local/regional beers on draft. I'd recommend seeking out Suarez Family and Industrial Arts on tap while you're here. Both are excellent breweries located in Upstate New York. If you're seeking out anything specific, beermenus is a good resource in NYC. Cheers!
Second the Suarez and IA recommendations. Torst has had Suarez lagers on the last two visits there and they have been the most affordable beers on tap if deliciousness alone doesn’t sell them to you.
If you get to Other Half, Interboro, and KCBC you'd be getting to the best of the best. Mix in The Well and you'd have a pretty bangin Saturday.
Surprised no one has suggested Beer Street as that is about midway between Torst and Interboro along the Greenpoint to Interboro to KCBC route.
