With what seems like a new brewery is opening every week in South Jersey, I keep waiting for that one world class brewery to emerge. I think that I may have found it in Brotherton Brewing out of Shamong Twp. NJ. I just got to sample their IPA, and all I have to say is wow. I've never had Tree House, or Trillium, but this is what I would imagine that an unfiltered, east coast IPA would taste like. Big, juicy, not real bitter and tremendously balanced. My beer place is putting their DIPA for growler fill tomorrow. The last time, it kicked in 3 hours.Great stuff.

If I'm not mistaken they do not have a tasting room, so it would be nice if they listed where people can find their beers .....

is ott's medford your local spot? only place out there that i know of with a growler station

shamong... aka indian mills is my hometown... Brotherton was the name of the indian reservation way back in the day that was on the land around there

this doesn't happen to be the name of the brewery that Valenzano is starting is it? I've heard about Valenzano going to open a brewery and do know the brewer will be using a close copy to hophands with a bit of some brett funk to it... curious if what you are talking about with brotherton is related to this at all. I see their address is on 206 which is also where valenzano is.. seems linked to me anyway.. if so, yeah i'd expect their IPA game to be pretty well done... knowing who is over there leads me to have high faith in what they will put out

    *Edited.. it's who i assumed

"In 2012 he helped open Tired Hands Brewing Company and was hired as the Executive Chef.

He continued his craft beer career working as a brewer for Grand Canyon Brewing Company in Williams, Arizona as well as Urban Family Brewing in Seattle Washington where he won numerous medals for various beers he brewed"

Velenzano is what I've heard and yes, Ott's in Medford is where I buy it. From what I have sampled so far, no one else is brewing anything close to this in S.J.

My friend told me this too, will we finally have a good ipa in south jersey? Spellbound is great but I think there better with dark beers than hoppy. Haven't been impressed with any of the new other locals that have opened in Medford area.

yeah, i checked with a friend of mine and all my deductions panned out. Going to have to make my way to Ott's and get some of their stuff. Are their crowlers really just 25oz? On beermenu's it's listed that way anyway.... weird they bucked the 32oz crowler trend.

Yea they are only they're 750 ml (or 25 ml), just bring a growlers. Less waste that has to be recycled, sorry had to preach. We should all be excited because the IPA is very very good, can't wait to try all the other stuff they will brew.

I'm drinking it right now, and this IPA is easily in the conversation for best IPA in the state.

How do you figure? A smaller container is always going to weigh more per liquid ounce of volume it can hold.

Look at Ball's own statistics for a pallet of 750ml/25.4 oz. cans (15 layers - 3600 cans) vs a pallet of 32 oz cans (13 layers - 3120 cans).

Both weight pretty much the same amount - 278 lbs / 277.3 lbs - but the pallet of quarts cans will hold 780 gallons of beer while the 750ml. pallet will hold only 714.4 gallons.

And that doesn't even included the weight of the extra 480 lids needed for the 750's.

Somebody check my math! :grimacing:

..I might be wrong, but I think what he is getting at is that a growler can be reused and crowler can only be used once.

Ah, ha! :flushed: Yeah, OK, I see it now (didn't understand that "...a growlers..." comment).

Guess I would have written it as:
"Less No waste that has to be recycled..." unless he's not reusing his caps.

I see they have some distribution listed on their website, and noted above, they do not have a tasting room currently. Do we know if they have plans for a tasting room in the future?

Looks like they recently signed with Hunterdon for state-wide distribution and the September 9th Press Release announcing the deal notes:

Was at their tap takeover the other night at The Blue Monkey, spoke to the owners and was told a tasting room is in the works plus other things. Stay tuned .....

i hope so, i've heard conflicting things about this, but didn't hear it from the owners... .would be silly imo to not have a tasting room

Just ed check out otts on beer menus, never been, I see only certain beers are listed on the growler section, so would that mean u can not get the brotherton as its only listed on the tap list? Thanks sorry for ignorance have a chance to make a little detour to get over to them but don't wanna go just for a pint

The quality here is intact, and surpasses the expectation of a startup. If you are skeptic, or in need of a comparison then I'll keep it local; aspects of G-Waves and Lil' Shimmy Ye are prevalent. You get a grapfrut punch and a subtle dankness @ a 6.7% discount.

...tap room would be nice, but not if the quality is jeopardized

Amazed to see Brotherton distributing in NNJ and CNJ. Had the Jersey Devil DIPA at the Morris Tap & Grill. Was good enough that i ordered a 2nd despite 25 other beers on tap.
Slightly undercarbed but so damn juicy!!!!
Great to see another solid NJ Hoppy beer available. Looking forward to trying the Brotherton IPA.
