Picked up a bottle of Bos Keun today, first stab at trying some DDB beers. The bottle had a really recent date of March 2012. However, there were a few other types of DDB beers available (Mad Bitch, Arabier) with dates from 2010. Given they are higher ABV Belgians would these still be ok?

If you go to the main page of the site and look up the beer in the database, then on the right hand side of the page in the black, you'll find a general recommendation that applies to that beer style.

Mad Bitch and Arabier (along with Bos Keun) are the De Dolle beers I prefer on the fresher side of things. I suppose the Mad Bitch is probably still decent from 2010, but Arabier is dry-hopped and is best fresh. Oerbier and Stille Nacht (plus the Reservas) are their offerings that develop the most with age.

That links to a generic cellar page, not specific to each beer. Am I looking at the right place?

I wish that I could help more on the specifics of the date.Although I'm aging some, the Bos Keun is the only one that I'd suggest drinking soon. Oh, when you open it get ready to pour.

1994 Dulle Teve. Was it better than a fresh one? I really don't look at it that way. After I took a sip was I earger for another one? YES!.

1991 Stille Nacht. Very sour but this was made with a different yeast than what is used today. Still a very cellar-able beer.

Is this an example of what you are finding?

The cellar information there is a general guide line for the style of beer. Most beers in the style its OK to trust that information.

Glad you liked them. And as an added bonus the gentlemen across from me is Mr Fred "Sticke Warrior" Waltman himself.

Anyway one caveat is that those beers most likely never saw anything over 75*F. In fact I have some Pannepot that I'd like to take to back to Belgium for one of the brewers to taste and see what they think. But OTOH I'm a bit leery too.

I just had a 2010 and a 2004 Mad Bitch, and the 2010 was fine. The 2004 was surprisingly better than expected. I'd have no problems picking up the 2010 of the Dulle Teve.
