Not the you'll feel any less bad but i tried three different friend's bottles and two of them were straight nail polish (brouwers imagination 2 obviously not the almanac:wink: and the 3rd was decent. So as anecdotal evidence... you have a 2/3 chance of wasting 35 dollars.

Surprising. Been there 100 times, never seen anyone under 21 in there that didn't at least have a fake ID. They have never been deceptive in the fact that they are strictly 21+. As for traffic, well, it's a big city with traffic issues.

Yeah, I've never heard kids being allowed at Brouwers, Bottleworks or Burgundian. I mean, it would be nice side I've got a two year old, but I respect their decision.

The baby has been in bottleworks too... That's 21 and over too? What ever happened to personal responsibility? Parents should parent, it shouldn't be up to the state.

We're not Oregon, and the B/B/B guys could do things to allow them to be all-ages establishments, they just don't want to.

It's nice having places that I can take my kid to, but I don't have a problem with places that won't allow her, either.

Man, when the Burgundian first opened as The Publican, they got so much shit from Tangletown residents. The previous restaurant in the space was all-ages and they threw a huge fit when it was announced that it would be 21+. For a while you couldn't read an article about the place without people going off on it in the comments.

I've complained on here about a few 21+ establishments around Seattle that I think shouldn't be (74th Street Ale House, Die Bierstube)—but Brouwer's, Bottleworks et al. aren't among them. Sure, you can take a baby just about anywhere because let's face it, they're pretty clueless. But a lot of places simply aren't all that appropriate for kids after they get past about 3 years old.

Yeah, if you had your kid in Brouwers, you got away with something. It also says something about the quality of the service there that you weren't told before. But, I've got my own issues with service at Brouwers, so YMMV.

Couldn't agree more. When an infant is sleeping the whole time in a bar, it shouldn't matter. Chances are mom and or dad need a quick Beer. a 3 year old or a 12 year old are different. But still it comes down to the government parenting for you.
I do have to say, bow that I have one, I notice babies in places in Portland everywhere. Hair of the dog, upright... Somehow, cascade. Any place that allows them, they are crazy with sleeping babies. craft Beer people are getting older and having kids. And thowe that allow then get way more business in the afternoons. Though, I am a HUGE advocate of, your kid is crying, get them the fuck outside, they are bothering everyone else...

However I believe kids are allowed more often in breweries/brewpubs than bars both in seattle and portland. i was shocked how many kids were in reubens and stoup. pretty nice to know i'll have options once the kids thing happens.

Breweries are cool with kids here in Seattle and a few restaurants, but not everywhere.

Portland is way more kid friendly, though.

So glad you said this

I remember there was a thread a while back that ended with (im paraphrasing here), "So you're saying you hate my kids?". LOL

But back to the topic. My brother just happened to fly into SEA today and called and told him "You have to go drink some Matt and FW PNC at Brouwer's" (He hadn't tried either until today). Needless to say, he loved them both and spent a good part of his afternoon there. He's lucky to have me as a brother :grinning:

Brouwers, Burgundian, Bottleworks, 74th, Latona, etc are all amazing places that help to create and maintain our craft beer scene. The fact that they choose not to allow kids, to me, is a sign of cultural maturity. Our scene is still young and some don't see how a true all ages, everyone welcome attitude fits with the culture of beer. This will change. Look to Europe and the amazing beer cultures from whence we come. Find a place where kids, old people, etc aren't courted and I'll give you a dollar. They are rare.

I'm the meantime, we can all enjoy the diversity of choices we have and support all our great craft beer establishments while pushing for a more inclusive, community minded approach. As a long time Tangletown resident and huge Burgundian fan, I am constantly frustrated that I can't hang out with my boys and enjoy the amazing food and beers but I am confident times will change. Does it keep me away? No. Does it lose business? Yes. In time, this dynamic, I hope, will win out.

Craft beer is ultimately about community and this tide will sweep over the hold outs from the "beer bar" mentality sooner or later...Because Beer Matters!

Go live in Wisconsin. You can bring minors virtually anywhere, and even allow them to drink with you, regardless of age. Typically just the discretion of the barkeep/owner, but kids in bars are just a part of the culture.
