Hi everyone! My wife and I recently moved from Michigan to Ohio, which meant that we moved out of distribution of her favorite beer (Odd Side Ales How Now Brown Cow), and one of the only ones she'll drink. She prefers beer on the chocolate/caramel/roasty side and doesn't really like hops. She also enjoyed Bells Best Brown, but not quite as much. Does anyone have suggestions for browns that are similar?

I love bellaire brown. And if you want to get crazy, take some hazelnut coffee beans and toss em in the glass and let it sit for 10. No Need to thank me, lol.

If Avery distributes to your area, check out Ellie's Brown Ale. Sounds like she might like porters too, so Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald might be an option.

Thanks everyone! I know we for sure get Avery and Rogue, so I'll try those first. Unfortunately no Shorts :slight_frown:

Where in Ohio? Cincy area has Gnarly Brown from MadTree and Mt. Carmel Coffee Brown. Both very good.

I am a lover of Brown Ales, and Mt. Carmel Nut Brown is a consistent and perpetual fave of mine, though I think of it on the hoppier side for browns. Though I lived in Michigan, I never had How Now Brown Cow. For more malt-forward and subdued hop take, I'd try Old Brown Dog by Smuttynose, and possibly Ellie's by Avery. And although it is not a brown ale, Eliot Ness is a great substitute for a slightly sweet and easy-drinking malt bomb.

I love me some Madtree Gnarly Brown but fair warning I think that is a hoppier brown ale than most.

Don't know if DFH distributes to Ohio, but Palo Santo Marron fits the bill to a T. Maybe a little boozier than you are looking for, but full of caramel and vanilla goodness.
