    Hey everyone,

Not sure what to call this one, but either way, looking for some recipe thoughts/suggestions.

    45% Maris Otter
    26% Munich (8L)
    13% Dark Munich (14L)
    6.5% Caramunich
    4% Chocolate Malt
    3% Cara-Pils
    2.5% Aromatic

    28 IBU's from Mt. Hood (60min addition)

    1.051 OG, 1.014 FG (expected)
    Color Estimated: 20 SRM
    4.9% ABV

Nottingham yeast... Plan to ferment on the cool side (low 60's). Water profile adjusted for maltiness.

I am looking for a very malty, flavorful ale... I want the bready, biscuit flavors with some caramel in there as well. I want it easy to drink, think of something like a dunkel lager, which is how I kind of interpolated my recipe from mixed with a brown ale. I plan to cold crash it near 35F at the end of fermentation a few days to drop as much yeast and such out of suspension prior to bottling.

    Appreciate the feedback!

The first thought that popped into my mind is that the recipe looks like it will make a tasty beer.

As to the Brown Ale vs. Alt topic I am more inclined the call this beer a Brown Ale vs. an Alt since the recipe includes Chocolate Malt and uses an English Ale yeast strain. Also 28 IBUs is on the low end of the style guidelines for an Alt so this seems more in the realm of a Brown Ale for me.

“I am looking for a very malty, flavorful ale... I want the bready, biscuit flavors with some caramel in there as well.” My guess is that this recipe will achieve those goals.

Good luck with your beer and please report back with your impressions of the resulting beer.

    Cheers!
