Different tastes I guess, I'm just not into 40 proof sugar bombs that pour brown. It's a great deal if that style is something you enjoy tho.

I wouldn't say there is a "general consensus" with Offshoot...but it does seem to be divisive...

Bruery members/fans are high maintenance....I've never seen a group of people get so tweaked by beer.

If you like it, buy it and drink it. If you don't, then don't. And if you don't buy it, stop complaining about it and move on. Plenty of other things to drink.

I haven't heard or seen much positive feedback about Offshoot; therefore, I think it's accurate to say the general consensus is they are putting out overpriced subpar beer.

This is a forum to voice your opinion regarding beer so there will be plenty of "complaining." Like it or not, I think the complaining can be used by breweries as constructive criticism to improve themselves.

Every single Offshoot beer has an average score under 4.0 on Untappd. If that's not a "general consensus," I'm not sure what is.

And before you try to re-frame that argument, yes, people are stupid and people in large groups are extra stupid, but 1) people on Untappd tend to score beers higher than deserved and 2) people tend to score hazy IPAs higher than deserved. If every single one of your hazy IPAs is sitting under 4.0, you're doing something wrong.

Does the color matter? I've heard that comment a few times about brown.

I've been pouring beautiful solid black ba Stouts from around the country and most of the time, the taste is underwhelming. So I don't get excited when the color is brown or black.

Is this the new craze, just like how hazy IPA's automatically tastes better. Black colored stouts are inferior than dark brown stouts.

Anybody out there interested in taking over my Hoarders membership? Hate to just let it expire and hoping someone can take advantage. Shoot me a note if you are.

Or maybe when we "complain" about thing the Bruery listens and tries to correct things. If they never listened you would see a lot more people would be leaving the club, hangar 24 and libertine come to mind.

I don't use untappd and am not familiar with their rating scale. Look up offshoot on this site....average score 4.14

If you just want to go by numbers, that would indicate that the beers are very good, on average.

I've personally enjoyed them, and think they'll continue to improve. No, they are not Monkish, or Modern Times, or Trillium yet, but that doesn't mean it is subpar beer. Just means it's not world class. Big difference.

Their "best" beer to me has been Temple of Boom. Even though I liked Line Cutter for a TIPA and that was the best can offering they have had so far.

I got nothing against Offshoot and their ways to market people into their new territory of IPAs, but judging based on cost/taste/expectations up to this point, Im not sure if I really want to continue to blindly go into buying a beer anymore. Sure I might miss that great one beer that everyone will rave about, but then again I could just stop by the brewery, spend $3-7 and try it on draft and let my impressions go from there.

To me, price is only an aspect of value, not of quality. Offshoot is expensive...no question. I can understand not wanting to roll the dice sight unseen.

I actually think some of their better beers have been draft only.

That's my point. They're charging the same price for a 4pack as the other world class breweries. They're putting out a inferior product for the same price. It just doesn't make sense. If you aren't anywhere near the level of these other breweries, you shouldn't be charging the same prices.

If you want to charge world class brewery prices I'm going to compare you to them. And when you don't deliver I will label your product as subpar.

Price and quality have nothing to do with each other

Price is a function of value.

When you make statements like "inferior" and "subpar" you are implying quality.

I really liked it as well. It wasn't the same "black forest cake" beer I'd had in the tasting room, but the lower ABV did much to blend the flavors. Regretted not buying more--was hoping is was still in the store, but alas, not so.

I also have to speak up for M&C this year. Drank my first bottle last night, and loved it. Is it less coconut in the face than previous? Maybe, but the coconut came through well and blended very nicely with the base. That still is in the store!

I'm in my 3rd RS year and definitely plan on continuing. Quite a few great beers continue to come out. I won't list all of mine, to each his own, but more than enough awesomeness and my choice to decline the ones that aren't for me.

This seems like a weird expectation/complaint. It would be nice of The Bruery to do that I guess, but when we all bought our membership last year we had zero expectation of Offshoot ever existing or of ever buying IPAs from The Bruery. And on top of that, you don't even like their beer! It sounds like you'd be much happier overall if Offshoot just never even existed, even though it would make no difference in your life (no line for you to not be in front of and no IPAs that you don't like for you to not drink).
