If you're aware that what you tasted was a different year than what he tasted, why would you suggest that he got a wrong pour? Because you assume that the 14 and the 17 are going to taste exactly the same?

And the 14 pours were definitely from bottles. Either way, beers age regardless of what they're stored in.

From my understanding, the Black and Blue bbls cannot be purchased through allocations, however, this is the exclusive beer that can only be ontained via the membership. No allocations will be available of this or PB & J Thursday. Included bottles only

I'll say that I didn't like the 2014 Port BT now as much as I liked it when they poured it at the anniversary a couple of years back.

I remember it very well. I was at a friends house for a share and busted it out, it was in 2014. Everyone was saying it was the best of the night. My friends house we were at couldn't be out done in his own house and busted out a 2007 Utopias. That beat it.

I felt like the port barrel qualities were fading. The flavors were a little less defined and more muddled.

Interesting, so assuming they can control the amount of barrel flavor I wonder if the extreme flavor everyone is describing is to help it retain the port with age?

Sounds like some good feedback on BT Port and Yount. Any opinions on Chronology 18 (Imp. Porter)?

I'm not so sure. If what people are saying is true (it tastes more like the actual wine), I don't know how that plays into whether the barrel characteristics will last any longer.

they do. Kegs are sealed very well and light impermeable. They're probably the best long term storage vessel for a beer because the beer stays fresh for a long time as long as you store it well.

Gave it another chance abt the regular tasting room. This pour is definitely a different beer than what I had at Terreux. Color not as translucent. Nose has some heat, but you can tell it’s BT. Tastes seeet of the port barrel and reminds me of the last BT port. An excellent BT variant and I will max allocations! @BruerJoel maybe have someone check the keg at Terreux if it’s still there.

I would say that it's not as big of a deal to have BT included in the membership because it's not as rare as it used to be.

Additionally, most breweries store their kegs cold. The temperature difference will slow the aging as well.

I'm aware '17 port BT may taste completely different from the vintage one(as well as any beer from year to year) , but like... vindictive? Just a complete surprise.

I know from time to time people get the wrong pour (people aren't perfect), as well as the chance the wrong keg is loaded. BL did the latter recently. Someone on the forum complained that REN had no coffee this year on draft and Lindsay acknowledged it was true from one of the station pours! She responded saying it was a mistake and they loaded the wrong keg that day.

Anyways, looking forward to try the port fresh and snag bottles.

FYI: email sent out to RS members (like myself) who have not renewed for 2018:

Reserve Society 2018 -- I want you back!

    Dear Society Member,
First off, thank you for being a supporter of The Bruery! Our Society members make it possible for us to create beers that wouldn’t exist otherwise; you are an integral part of who The Bruery is. You inspire us to create beers that you’ll love, you give us great ideas, and you’ve given us a lot of love over the years. You make my job a ton of fun! I really appreciate it!

I’ve noticed you haven’t yet renewed your Society membership for 2018. I know you have a lot of choices on how your beer budget is spent, so it’s particularly important for us to provide the best experience and the greatest value to you possible. We’ve made significant improvements to our Reserve Society membership that I’d like to highlight:

    — We know exclusivity is important to our members, and I take full responsibility and blame in that we’ve not managed this well in 2017. This will result in a significant change in our approach in 2018 and beyond. We have over 25 beers being released next year (quite a few for the first time!) that will only be available to our Society members. Only a few of those will be available to Preservation Society members. We know that doesn’t fix the lack of exclusivity in 2017, but we hope it gives you confidence for 2018 and beyond. Our members should always be our first priority.

    — Our beer lineup for next year is the most amazing we’ve ever had, thanks to our Innovation Team and Experimental Brewers developing new recipes and flavors over the years. Our pilot system allows us to develop and test several new recipes a week, of which a very small percentage see the light of day. I can’t wait to see what you think about these beers!

    — We’ve included over $360 value of beer included with our Reserve Society memberships, and we’re working on increasing your value even further throughout the year. In previous years we’ve included beer at right around the cost of the $295 membership.

    — I know the holidays are a tough time to allocate cash to beer, so we’ve introduced payments that are spread out. For $99 now, and the remainder of the membership price spread throughout the year, you shouldn’t need to decide between presents and beer. After all, a Reserve Society membership is your present that keeps giving, right!?

    — We’re working on new packaging formats, such as 375mL bottles. Rest assured that soon we’ll be offering a wider selection of our beers (including many Society releases) in this smaller format bottle at the same price per ounce that you’d pay for a 750mL bottle. Solo’ing a bottle of our higher ABV beers will no longer be daunting, but you can always have two if you enjoy the challenge!

    — Society members will have priority access in 2018 to Offshoot Beer Co. releases, regardless of your prior purchase history. Thanks to procuring hops of amazing quality, and our constant learnings of how to make the most delicious IPAs (we’re still new at it!), we have many exciting Offshoot releases coming up. With our dedicated rotary canning line coming online in early 2018, we’re able to increase package quality and reduce our packaging costs, which will be passed on to you to provide you a lower price on Offshoot releases on top of your 15% discount!

    — For our East Coast members, I know you go through great lengths to get your beer to you, and frankly I'm amazed by your dedication! We are just about to open up The Bruery Store in Union Market District in Washington, DC, where we’ll have your allocations shipped, so hopefully that makes getting your beer much easier and less expensive. Even though it is expensive to operate a store on the East Coast, and ship your beer thousands of miles, your membership and beer will cost the same as if you bought it in California.

    — There are several exciting projects that we’re working on, but unfortunately I need to keep quiet on (and I wish I could tell you about!!!), but rest assured we’re working on ways to improve your Society experience and give you much greater value than any other brewery membership! Many of these projects will come into fruition in 2018.

I hope to have you back as a Reserve Society member in 2018! We’ll be closing California memberships this Sunday, December 10th, so please act fast! We’re keeping our East Coast membership enrollment open longer, depending on how quickly spots are filled.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you’d like us to work on, so please reply back if you have a chance!

    Hope to see you soon!

    Cheers,

    Patrick
