Dude- I think we could get along. I solo almost all my bruery. I never understood the fear of their stouts alone. You can enjoy it over the course of a few hours easily.... on a Tuesday.

I try and make something like BT last more than a day since I'm a poor student currently. I just find myself pouring more than I normally would.

Try bigger sips and imagine it overflowing. Works for me!

    Cheers !

Do Bruery stouts fall into that "beer is low carb low sugar low calorie" category? I always feel guilty after drinking 1/2 a bottle. I've solo'd a BT once and had to take the next day off work due to illness. I can do 1/2 a bottle just fine.

Oh hell no. A bottle of Black Tuesday is 2300 calories.

That's gotta be way off. You've most likely got to think of an ounce and a half of BT as probably being more caloric than something like a shot of Malibu, which is comparable in alcohol. A shot of Malibu hovers around 50 calories. A bottle of BT would definitely be in the neighborhood of 1,000+ calories.

Ever clear is almost 100% alcohol. Each ounce has 190 calories according to this website:

    http://www.livestrong.com/article/311344-everclear-alcohol-calories/

BT averages 20% ABV so there are roughly 5 oz of pure alcohol in there. 190 x 5 is 950. So there are 950 calories just from alcohol in each BT bottle. That doesn't take into account the residual sugar and all that other stuff. I could see a bottle being easily over 2000 calories.

Roughly 28 grams in an ounce and 7 calories per gram of alcohol. The math seems to add up. I think what we all learned here is that you shouldn't count calories while drinking BT, it'll kill your buzz.

Damn that's crazy. How many hours a day do you have to work out to stay healthy?

I googled a bit and found this calculator:

    http://www.brewunited.com/beer_calorie_calculator.php

I plugged in the numbers on a 2016 Parabola since they put OG/FG on the label. It's "only" a 13.1% beer (and only a 22oz bottle). Calculator pops out 904 calories, of which about 704-755 are from alcohol (if I'm reading the results correctly).

    Using this calculator:

    http://www.brewersfriend.com/abv-calculator/

I figure a 20.3% ABV beer with the same FG would need an OG of 1.189

Plugging those figures, plus the larger bottle size, into the original calc puts the calories at 1,568, of which around 1,300 are I think from the booze.

Man, that was tiring, I need a drink...

I love pouring a whole bottle in the large snifter. Wish the reserve society was a larger snifter. Ohh well, I got a couple from the bruery last year that will suffice. It works really well with both sours and stouts. Sours because I love drinking those and I seem to drink them quickly and hate pouring more....lazy.....and for the stouts it allows it to go from cold to room temp while I slowly drink em. You get all sorts of flavor profiles this way.

This makes sense, I was confused by the earlier link which showed a huge fat content for grey monday.

size in ml x ABV x 9 = 750ml x 19% x 9 = 1280. Basically ml's x ABV% minus 10% of total with decimal moved over. Try it for any beer and then look up the calories and see how close it is. ie- 341ml x 5% x 9 = 153 calories. Easy to remember.

My job entails a little effort on energy exertion and I'm not all that healthy anyway, though I'm just a bit overweight for my build. Good metabolism I guess.

I'm in excellent beer drinking shape. Been working that out for about 15 years seriously now. A very strict regimen of barley, malt, hops and water frequently with lots of adjuncts to keep me in tip top shape.
