Nope, but they used to have special tasters that are free from vintage beers. They would walk around and pour little tasters and explain the beer.

If that was the case I would actually try to battle the 91 freeway at rush hour.

    HAHAHAHA

No. You pay the same price you always do. They do usually walk around with a few vintage bottles though and give out free 1 oz pours of them. That usually happens on the hour starting at 4-8.

The only real benefit of going is to hang out with fellow members and get to try the allotments before you buy. That is especially important now because of the shorter purchase window.

Sure - my point was that there is no pleasing everyone. I like it this way, you like it that way. Perhaps as they've grown and the societies are large, more people are coming from further away (like me).

I've enjoyed the SMM's I've been to, but they have always been pretty chill and never too busy. From the sounds of it here it may be busier than before. Not sure what the drive is - just the passport stamps or all the new members? If there is a line out the door, I may just keep on driving... :slight_frown:

I talked to Lee about it. He said not many people would show up at the early time I would most of the time and I don't mind it. Though, anyone who shows up at 4 or later, I will be in front of you.

I reckon you'll be gone or passed out by the time I get there.

The first ones of the year were always the busiest. I expect this to be no different. New money will show up, see it's chill but nothing special and then come back a few more times throughout the year.

Or people read want to get their 10 stamps.

Don't get me wrong, SMM is always a good time, but if anyone expects to have their mind blown they will be disappointed. Its just a chill event to throw back a flight and hand out with some other beer nerds, which is just fine.

Um, but there is a way to please everyone, start it at noon like it always has been. If they have the new allocations available at the original then all is well, because that was all you got at noon anyways.
I really don't care because I have only been to one society member Monday in 3 years, but when I do go to the tasting room it is around noon. I have been there once after 5 pm in my 4+ years of going to the Bruery.

I always try to save my most plaid shirt for SMM, as well as making my beard extra bushy to ward off other predators, I mean strangers, from my seating area.

Looking for reviews online, and not having great success: can anyone say anything about Melange 5 in comparison to Bois Fume and S Wood?

I found Melange 5 to have little or no smoked qualities, whereas it was a primary feature of the other two. It was also lighter bodied and sweeter than either of the other two you mention. I enjoyed it. I wouldn't have necessarily thought to group it with those other two (despite the description being suggestive of smokiness).

So, I opened a 2016 Black Tuesday last night. I took the shrinkwrap sheath thing off by the little tab and a bit of peeling and the entire cap came off. I inspected the cap and it looks like it wasn't crimped all the way down on the bottle. The beer smelled and tasted just fine and there was carbonation, so the beer itself was fine. I was curious if anyone else has run across this.

Just curious, anyone aware of the Bruery having discussion/consideration on memberships that were Bruery Terreux only beers or memberships that included no Terreux beers?

Obviously everyone has different palates, but in my case I'm not a sour beer fan so I'd be 10x more excited as a Reserve member if I had access to a membership where all the focus was on non-Terreux beers.

Hey! I got an idea. Let the Bruery charge me double if I like both sours and barrel aged beers.

Or maybe just not buy the beers you don't like drinking. They don't make you buy all the beer.

Drinking a 2016 MW that had been left out warm since arrival. Slightly peppery but still plenty of coffee. Gonna have to pull 2017 into cold storage once it arrives. I would drink down my backlog but that's gonna be a serious effort.

Are we talking sweet like WC and CR or sweet like Blue BBLS? Maybe another way to ask is, If you like M5, you'll also like ...?

I would say it is closest to their anniversary/old ale series, but of the three you mention it would be closest to WC, although without the vanilla and cocoa nibs. It's more of a syrupy sweetness. There is no stout in the blend, and I would not liken it to Blue BBLs or CR at all.

The closest comparison for me would be the FW anniversary blends, but without any stout in the mix.
