People keep hoping for that, but I think re-releasing two of their old sours as their mystery beers of the year would show an immense lack of creativity. I'm hoping it's going to be awesome, but something that's also certainly new.

Yeah, that's correct. Hoarders are supposed to have another Bois variant (new French oak) coming too.

I forgot about that too. So seriously...between November and December we're lookin' at... Grey Monday, Melange 3, Bois New French Oak, Fess Parker Collab, Naughty Tuesday, Mystery Beer #2, the Christmas brews.... Anything else I'm missing? Christ that's going out with a bang.

Yeah, I'd be very disappointed if both mystery beers were just rebrews. Don't rebrew Wanderer - make the NEW Wanderer.

The only way RS is getting a Fess Parker collab is if it's Mystery Beer #2.

Are the initial packages always something that is released the year prior? Last year was WC,Otiose and M3. If that is the case they would have to release Mocha Wed at some point by the end of the year. To me this seems like a likely and welcome approach. They would probably do it like Grey Monday last year where no allocations just everyone gets one. At that point it would fit the mold for the initial HS allocation 2014 (also including CR, Bois and Sans P). I am sure whatever comes down the pipe will be good so I am happy to wait it out with a fist full of Black Tuesday.

Or it could be part of the the first allocation of 2014, and you get your free bottles at the same time. SHIT is also part of the Hoarders' initiation package, which isn't part of the 2013 upcoming releases. Also, I'd be surprised if they gave both the RS and HS a Mocha Wednesday in 2013, then made Mocha Wednesday HS-exclusive in 2014 (which it is). Possible, but not exceedingly likely based on their past decisions.

Good point, I suppose I'd rather have yet another BT variant so hopefully we will get something cool.

There's been a significant number of allusions made to a new batch of Wanderer being made on instagram. Though that could easily be something slated for very early 2014.

Does look like they're doing/heavily hinting at a new batch of wanderer from their instagram, but would be surprised if it was for this year.

I would guess it will be Mystery Beer #1 next year. They posted three pictures on October 1st, one of which was with someone from City Beer Store, another of which was 'adding a couple kinds of fruit to a barrel of something delicious.' The fruit picture could be totally unrelated to The Wanderer, but if they were just fruiting it two weeks ago, the odds of it being released this year are very slim.

Melange #1 is up at the Tasting Room now. Had a glass & when cold the sour was much more up front than I remembered. As it warmed it lessened but it was still there. I still enjoyed it at both temps, but if you are sour sensitive it may be too much.

I forgot you had mentioned ToD as the comparison beer. If I go back to the Tasting Room tomorrow for the Humulus Wet flight, I'll try them side by side for you.

I totally agree. I think they now how much people love Bottleworks XII and Wandererer, so it's an easy decision to make a majority of 1000+ people happy. If they weren't sure what #2 was going to be when Bottleworks was released, I think the reaction of everyone pretty much cemented that Wanderer was going to be number #2.

I'm actually hoping that they make an even better version of The Wanderer and call it "The Wandererer". Or would it be "The Wanderest"?

Having had Cacaonut, White Chocolate, Bois, and Melange #3 at Hamiltons yesterday, I have to say I'm looking forward to the M3 release much more now. That beer seems to be the overlooked strong ale in their portfolio. And I knew I liked it before, but that beer stood head and shoulders above the others. I even bought a glass each of M3 and Bois to compare side by side (since I had remembered them having a similar flavor profile), and the M3 ran circles around the Bois.

M3 doesn't get the love it should, I really enjoy it. Nice to have it on tap at the tasting room all year.

I really dug Hamilton's when I was down there a couple of weeks ago. And, from memory, I liked last year's Melange 3 much more than I like Bois.

Should we ask Patrick if they changed the Melange 3 recipe this year like they did with White Chocolate?

I'm assuming that with the shitstorm that came out of the WC thing, they'll now be making statements if they feel their beers differ greatly from past years.

It has always seemed that its (comparatively) broad availability keeps people from getting excited about it, but it has been my favorite Bruery beer since its first release. I hope that this year's White Oak Sap doesn't substantially change the character of the blend, but I also believe that it can stand up to increased acidity and a touch of tartness far better than White Chocolate did.
