Had melange 1 last night for the first time, what a fantastic beer!

So is there actually a reason to not max out on The Wanderer?

Have you tried the new batch? If so, how does it compare to the old batch? The original batch of Bottleworks XII is my favorite Bruery sour to date, but I don't like the new batch at all. I'm hesitant to judge an untried rebrew of a Bruery sour based on the merits of an initial batch.

I never tried the original BWXII. I have had the new one. How did they compare?

Night and day. Batch one was complex, funky, citric but balanced, with lots of horse blanket and fruit. I opened a bottle of batch 2 when it first came out and it was lifeless, simple, hardly sour, little fruit, and with too much coriander. Not a beer I care to drink again.

Huh, different taste buds I guess - I have had plenty of both batches (never side by side though) and didn't notice a discernable difference (I love both and it's one of the few Bruery beers that I maxed out on and then ordered a bunch more of). I've also had both batches of Wanderer and thought the latest batch is excellent, although without trying them side by side I can't tell if there are noticeable differences. After trying the latest batch of Melange 1 this weekend, I am kicking myself for not maxing out on that!

I've been hearing a lot of positive things about this recent batch of Melange #1. I regret not buying a bottle.

After posting this, I just checked the store and it looks like it's still for sale!

did a side-by-side of 1 and 3. Pretty good brew. The sour and the big imperial stout play off of each other nicely. However, 3 does me in with all of its caramel, vanilla, molasses, clove notes.

B2 BW12 was very poor compared to B1. B2 Wanderer is ok compared to B1, but it just doesn't seem to have as much fruit as B1 did fresh. I think when you age the two Wanderers for comparable amounts of time they will likely taste the same, but fresh B1 was a lot more fruit forward.

Man, it sucks being a '14 RS member and reading about ll the wonderful offerings that I missed out on. Luckily it can only get bigger and better in the future!

B2 BW12 is a great sour to have a shit ton of at pretty reasonable prices. Not my favorite sour by any means and not super special, but it's a solid table sour you could easily drink anyday. That's how I kind of look at it. Not whale status but who gives a shit when I was able to buy 2 cases of a good sour.

I'm not sure if I agree with the sentiment that 3 is better than 1. They're such different animals that it's kind of pointless to compare them. But yeah, opened up a bottle of 2012 #3 the other night and I forgot how damn good that beer is. Better than Black Tuesday, Bois, and Melange #8 imo.

For me, only thing that holds me back on M#3 is the price. Come Jan 1st when the 15% discount kicks in gonna grab some.

That's cool and all, but Batch 1 remains the far superior beer.
