I'm thinking of posting up an ISO for the Papier set. Brandy, Bourbon, Rye Whiskey, regular. Mostly interested in the Rye. I really don't have a frame of reference what they are worth in a trade, although I know what I'd give for them.

What's gotten this done for you guys? Individually or as a set.

I was going to do that actually, but I can't make it down to Cincinnati that day.

I think it would take something pretty serious for each one. For the whole set it would not only be multiple pretty damn rare beers, it would have to be specific beers that closely aligned with your trade partner's wants. That was obvious, but I would imagine you'd need rare lambics.

For reference, a buddy of mine did an IP, Rye, Bourbon and Brandy for M. Good luck.

The BA Papier rarely shows up on the trade forums. They were also (estimated) to be less than 180 bottle counts back in the day, and some bottles have stayed at Bruery from what I understand. In theory, finding one of the bottles is much harder to track down than PiaPT.

Not in theory, in practice. BA Papiers are crazy rare, perhaps even more so than BA PiaPT. Regular Partridge was a far bigger release, making it to lots of stores in California. The barrel ones didn't make it outside of the Bruery, to the best of my knowledge.

I actually used "in theory" to prevent someone from saying "Well, but PiaPT is so rare, don't tell me objectively how hard it is to track down a BA Papier!!! I have Black Note!!!" or something similar. I guess I can't win, but it did get a good second opinion in there that I agree with. I would have to assume they're at least as rare as BA PiaPT. I can say that the guys I know with bottles are looking for something equally rare in return, and rightfully so.

And I say all of this as someone who had a PiaPT and traded it in December -- it was a shelf beer before demand went crazy. I bought two or three with no difficulty whatsoever back in November 2009, and then it somehow magically became a whale. Any of the early barrel stuff from the Bruery were hard to get even when they came out.

I hate to use eBay as a reference, but it is a pretty decent tool at loosely outlining trade value for whales. I can't even find Rye Papier on eBay. What are everyone's thoughts on a Rye Papier for an Izzy 1:1?

    No, it's not.

Listen, you're talking about two incredibly rare and desirable beers. Actual "cost" is going to be the last thing that you'll be expected to match when dealing with beers like the two that you've mentioned. You're dealing with rarity and rarity alone in this situation. An auction site isn't going to provide you with any real, dependable insight on this specific topic.

Here, I'll even do some of the work for you....copy and paste this into a new thread on the ISO/FT forum:

FT: Isabelle Proximus ISO: Rye Papier

That should answer all of your questions. Not that difficult, really.

Why the abrasive attitude, Knifestyles? You act like you have a vengeance to slay all beer related questions with a sword of hostility. I don't understand.

I'm making discussion here, and I think eBay is relevant. I'm not interested in debating with you whether or not you agree with that assessment.

ANYWAY... I'll restate my question for the rest of you. Would any of you go 1:1 on an Izzy for Rye Papier? Or would Rye Papier command more than an Izzy in your eyes?

    I'm sorry...come again?

No hostility here, just making a pretty solid argument that this is NOT the way to determine the likelihood of this hypothetical trade.

Post an actual ISO/FT and the results will clearly dictate the likelihood. It really is that simple. eBay metrics aren't going to get you anywhere.

Not really sure how else to make that clear... I'll chalk that up to density.

Very hostile. I'm not interested in arguing with you man really. I'm tired of people coming into a thread with the attitude they need to strike every post down. I said nothing off base and seems like a valid point. And I'm not using eBay metrics here, I only passingly mentioned I can't find Rye Papier on eBay and that I think the bay typically gives a loose idea of trade value. If you reread my post you'll see that I'm asking fellow BA's in a thread in a subforum called "Trading Help" in a forum called "Beer Trading" on a board called "Beer Advocate". CRAZY RIGHT!

Discussion over, anyone have any insight into that trade?

There just aren't that many people with Rye Papier.

Try posting this in the main forum:
FT: Isabelle Proximus ISO: Rye Papier
Ask the same questions there as you are asking here, watch your topic float at the top due to eBay discussions, and hope someone interested sees your topic before it gets out of hand and deleted. (Also, enjoy all the messages you will get asking for the Isabelle Proximus for other beers)

I say this as someone who has sought the -bal aged Papier beers and has Isabelle Proximus: There are more than 4x as many gots for Isabelle Proximus, and I don't think there is any chance of that trade getting done. If someone has a bottle of barrel aged Papier, they are likely to have something else they could trade to get an Isabelle without having to so much as consider removing that Papier from that safe in the back corner of their cellar.

Wish it was possible, but if it was, I'd have done it 18 months ago.

Yeah, I'd like to steer this back on course. Away from the eBay talk.

I just didn't want to post up a false ISO. I'm more just curious if this is the type of beer that would land a Papier variant. Also not trying to flood my inbox with "hey i gotz some Zombie dust, 6 pack for yo izzie?"

oh, i get it...this is a ask the community how to rank things for the unwanted wales BIF?

as a pretty big anti-ebay (for beer) guy, you gots ta be careful when you start referencing ebay. sale and trading are different animals entirely and merging the two is quite like crossing the streams...not really sure what will happen, but will probably be bad.
