So I am putting together a Bruery tasting in May for Chicago Craft Beer Week. I am curious as to how many years/batches were bottled of the following and when the earliest was. White Chocolate and correct me if I'm wrong but 2009 was the first year BT was bottled. Thanks I appreciate it.
White chocolate was produced in 2012 and 2013 (one batch per year). I highly reccomend drinking the 2012, as 2013 is infected. And yes, 2009 was B1 of BT. Have fun getting smashed on ridiculously high gravity beers!
Not all 2013 was infected. The bottle I had was fine and very similar to the 2012. I don't know what the infection rate is and how dicey obtaining a 2013 is.
ugh QUIT SAYING INFECTED!!! contaminated is the right word for when unwanted bacteria produce off-flavors in beer.
It really depends on what way you look at it. I work in a geomicrobiology lab culturing bacteria day in and day out, and contaminated is the term I'd use for something that was exposed to unwanted/outside organisms, not infected. Infected is more of a biologically infested wound that cannot heal by itself, if at all. However, in our hobby of beer geekery, we just use the term infected. Is it right in the true definition of the word? No. But eh, whatever, it gets the point across and we all know what it means when we see it.
