That's what I thought too (the only reason I bought it was for the reserve18). I did a pickup on Monday and opened up the box last night and they gave me a regular 18 instead of a reserve 18. When they were reading off the bottles to match up they read it as black tuesday 2018 and I said that should be a reserve for the barrel odyssey and he said "oh yeah" so I figured it would be right

Just email them. They'll likely remember that and make it right. I had a similar thing last year where I got a regular 10 Lords instead of BA. Thought they'd fixed it but got home and realized it was still wrong. They were super cool about it.

Got it all handled quick and easy. My first reserve bottle.

Change of subject has anyone tried the Wee So Heavy yet?

Same exact thing happened to me. Except I only caught when I opened up the box once it made it to me in MN. They gave the 18 to me at a great price and made sure the reserve made it to me in the next pickup

Surprised no one has answered. I'll take a shot but am certainly no cicerone and on top of that my palate felt off today. Not sure why. Also was a little rushed. IMO all beers benefit from about 15 minutes of time to warm up but I was diving in. With all that, here's what I've got.

Took a few tastes of my son's pour of TODwCV aged in rum. Wish this came in 325s; I'd probably pick up a couple, but still too much sour for me in a 750 and with a cellar as full as mine. But the rum flavor comes through spectacularly to blend with the base and adjuncts after it's warmed up. The cherry and vanilla come through nicely on the finish. If you've had TOD with adjuncts before, you know they do it well. This one doesn't disappoint.

WCwRaspberry. Lots of raspberry. In fact, had trouble picking up the WC underneath. Fully blame myself for this and expect that when I open a bottle I'll find differently. Unless you're not a fan of raspberry, pick it up. I will be.

Love Bites. For first half of taster I wasn't impressed. Seemed to be missing creaminess I expected as well as defined strawberry. But I set it aside and worked on other things and when I came back to the last few sips it had changed. Creamy chocolate underneath strawberry. Going to pick up a couple.

Also had a Royal St. Sweets. This one had no trouble with the flavor profile standing out in comparison to the others. Emphasis on sweet. Very sticky, sweet. Nice blend of banana and cinnamon. Just threw it in to see, but will actually pick some up.

And if you're at Terreux and haven't tasted a "straight" brew in awhile, check out Sinful Sap. Belgian blend. Blonde spectrum, delicious spicy belgian yeast, no adjuncts. Almost forgot what beer actually tastes like!

I’m not sure of everything the Bruery has in store for us this year, but hopefully a beer or two with coconut in them. That being said one of the areas for improvement for me would be to enhance the flavor of coconut when being used. I’ll be the first to say my palate isn’t the greatest, because I can’t really notice a difference when the Bruery toasts the coconut or uses raw in its beer. The coconut flavor is always muted or hardly noticeable. This being said I had a can of Trillium Coconut Truffle and the flavor in this Beer was exceptional. This beer is not an expensive beer per say $5 /16oz. Anybody from the Bruery reading give these guys a call and ask how they add their coconut, whether it be an extract or fresh, it tastes great.

Forgot to add that, as others have noted, Aloha is a solid weekday offering. Which speaks to coconut in beer. What I think I've noticed in beer is that fresh coconut adds a sweeter coconut flavor than toasted. As I recall, the o.g. Mash & C was fresh coconut and was amazing. Of course it wasn't stable and there were infections. The subsequent batch was toasted coconut which, while still good, wasn't quite the same...but was stable. I believe we've seen toasted ever since.

My other example that leads me to this conclusion is Smog's coconut coffee porter. The first time they brewed this, I think for an event, I recall a very sweet, full coconut profile. I believe (but could be wrong) that this was fresh coconut. The next year this beer was bottled as Ticking Clock with toasted coconut and, while still delish, had that drier coconut flavor that I recognized. Again, I may be wrong about this one.

So, back to Aloha. While it does use toasted, the sweetness of the BT base plus the creaminess of the macadamia's does a lot to round out the flavor. If possible, I'd take even more coconut ("more cowbell"--I'm with you skiking), but as is it is pretty fine.

I had this and was wondering if it was the new incarnation of White Oak? That was a favorite before they retired it and I thought Sinful Sap had a similar sort of profile.

Fuck, Thee Cobbler is drinking outstanding right now.

On the topic of toasted coconut - from my own experience in brewing with coconut in pretty much all forms (coconut sugar, coconut sweetened cacao nibs, actual coconut puree, toasted coconut in various degrees, untoasted/fresh coconut, etc) - that classic 'coconut' flavor everyone seems to clamor for (ie: mounds bar sweet coconut) is found in the fresh or barely toasted coconut, and a sweeter malt backbone will always exaggerate it. The more you toast it, the more savory the coconut gets. Moving from a more sweet candy-like coconut flavor that we are all familiar with, to a more pastry-crust like flavor that, at the extreme level of toast, really does not taste like coconut at all, as all the oils get baked out. I recently did a lemon meringue pie gose (vanilla, -very- toasted coconut, meyer lemon juice), and that heavy toasted coconut makes it all taste like drinking vanilla wafers. No actual coconut flavor at all, but damn is it dead on with nilla wafers.

I had Double Barrel Aloha Friday at Carnival of Caffeination this weekend and thought it was damn good. Very pineapple forward, though i couldn't find anywhere online were it says pineapple was added (neither regular or double barrel). Does anyone know if pineapple was added at any point or did they achieve that flavor some other way?

Any idea which Bruesicles are being released this week? Post said 3 cans and showed Habaneros but Mango Fire was recently fairly recently right?

Would you say it's broadly similar to White Chocolate with Cherries? Just with a slightly different fruit profile? (That question might sound reductive, but is serious)

Same question. Just had WC/Cherries not too long ago and liked it more than I though I would. Nice tart fruit up front and still had a strong White Chocolate backbone.

Someone either here or on Untappd stated that it had good Raspberry, but no WC.

I enjoyed w/raspberry, but it was very fruit flavored where I felt I lost the base beer. My main problem is justifying the $7 price difference between the two. Might stick with the two included bottles and pick up some reg WC though I’m still undecided.

Found that the Raspberry WC needed to really warm up for any of the WC came through, but once it did the tastes blended together nicely. Before that it was just tart raspberry with no other taste or feel.

Stopped in for a flight today. The two standouts were Room for You and BT Spicy Island. I’m not the biggest fan of sours, but Room for You was mildly tart, slightly funky and a good amount of juicy peaches.

Spicy Island wasn’t really spicy but the pineapple was sweet and made this dangerously drinkable at the abv.

In my opinion it's definitely different from WC w/ Cherry. This one is much more fruit forward, honestly kinda reminds me of Mikkeller's Rasberry Blush. Overall I just really liked how it tasted, but didn't really compare it "as a WC" variant, if that makes sense.

Honestly, $100 is a bit steep if they went that high. I'm driving down and would consider skipping it if it was that much.
