I am a 2014 RS member and looking to get some beers shipped to me. I have a friend in Cali so I am not looking for a trustee, but rather just some info from those of you that are a trustee for someone. If I buy the 12 bottle shipper and have it sent to him, can he just drop back off to fedex with a new label to get it to me or would it need to be repackaged? I assume the box would be fine, but not sure if it gets labelled as bruery/alchol and then would need to be repacked before sending.

Any other tips I should pass along to my trustee before hand?

There are GSO stickers on it that may reveal its contents. I would have him open it, wrap each bottle in newspaper (to cover the very apparent sound of bottles rubbing against styro), add some rice or tic tacs or something to cover the sound of liquid sloshing, add some tape to the bottom of the box and you should be good to go.

I just tried to ship two 12-bottle shippers from SD to Illinois. They made it onto the FedEx truck going to my house, then the driver heard the sloshing. Since I used my own Illinois address as the ship from, it got shipped back to The Bruery. There were no markings on the box at all. I truly believe they opened the box in order to figure out where to ship it. I would echo the recommendations above or, to remove some risk, repack fewer bottles in smaller boxes. This is my first year with a trustee but when I trade, I've never had issues with 6 bottles or less. Just MHO....

how did they know to send it to the bruery if a trustee sent it for you?

Sounds like its just a matter of making sure its well packaged for shipping like a normal trade would be but that the normal container they give you is ok. Thanks for the tips guys!

I believe they opened it. I talked to Matt at The Bruery. All the bottles were in tact. There was different tape on the boxes. They had to open it. I'm just happy my trustee has it back. Bad thing is she's going on a cruise and can't get bottles to me for another 3 weeks

I've had a 12-bottle shipper sent to me from SoCal to NJ without any issue.

Does The Bruery ship their bottles on their side?

I've seen them packing a shipper before and it was the upright 12 bottle foam shipper. Can't say that'll be the case for the other shippers.

They're all 3/6/9/12 upright foam shippers.

This is mostly true, but we also use 3 bottle shippers that hold the bottles horizontally. We use these mostly for Preservation Society shipments.

I've shipped beer using Bruery shippers via FedEx without issue, but I did repackage bottles in such a way that they made no rubbing noise and were held pretty firmly in place. YMMV--shipping beer as an individual is inherently a crapshoot.

Hmmm....I have done a lot of "re-shipping" of Bruery boxes. I just remove the GSO labels or cover them with a new FedEx label and drop off. Never opened and re-wrapped, never had a problem but maybe I should rethink.

I'd wager the vast majority of FedEx/UPS workers won't care, but it only takes one at the wrong time to divert your beer.

I'm a trustee for three people, and The Bruery ships beers in 2,3,4, 6,9, and 12 pack styrofoam shippers. I have never had a problem getting them all safely. When I do get them, I open up and add paper to secure the bottles a little better. Then take the previous labels off, add new shipping label and re tape the bottom of the box. It's not hard, and doesn't take a lot of time.

Are some of you really paying 2 shipping charges to get this beer? Yikes.

Are you guessing or did they tell you that they turned the package around after they discovered it was beer due to the sloshing sound? I've shipped a lot of beer and I only had issues once due to breakage before I learned how to package beer better.

The only reason I ask is because there isn't a lot of air space in a bottle for beer to gather momentum and slosh. Plus after driving a couple thousand miles with multiple cases of beer in the back seat of my car and the rear of my F-150 completely loaded I've heard some clanking but never any sloshing. And one of those drives involved CA-193 from Auburn, CA to Lincoln, CA in my SHO and let's just say that road is a whole lot of fun in a car with a manual transmission and no traffic in front of me. Two cases of Eclipse buckled into my back seat be damned.

Anyone dealing with shipping delays recently? Seems my order hasn't been packed up despite having been paid for a week ago.

Called 3 times already... looks like #4 is incoming :/

EDIT: Last week the response was "it should go out today", then on Monday it was "all orders should be packed by Wednesday", then today its "they're working through it... we hope by the end of the week"

Very annoying to spend as much as I did for shipping and a week later nothing has gone out! I wasn't sure what to expect but this is terrible.
