Brussels IP trade and hotel recommendations . . .

I stayed at the hotel opera ( http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g188644-d230940-Reviews-Hotel_Opera_Bruxelles-Brussels.html ) last month. Its nothing fancy and little outdated but you cant beat the location (2-3 mintutes from the grand place & a 25 mintute walk to cantillon)

Good people, convenient location and a damn good cheese plate for breakfast. I think I got a pretty good deal on it by booking it at the last minute.

 

There are several of the Ibis chain in Brussels, haven't stayed in any here (since I live here) but have found them dependable all around Europe, usually around 100 euros a night. There are locations near Grand' Place and St. Catherine (probably the more pleasant options, walkable down the downtown Moeder Lambic (Fontainas). There's also one near the south station that is walkable to there and to Cantillon but more of a keep-your-wits-about-you walk. (Which is not to say that GP or SC locations are not to abandon your wit altogether.) To be closer to the original ML St. Gilles, a friend of mine stayed in the HC hotel for similar money and it's about as close as you can get to there. Otherwise close to the nicer parts of Ixelles but not well positioned for other beer tourism.
