hello you well educated folk in all that is rare beer and what not. I am going to Belgium and am torn between staying in Brussels or Ghent. Logistically speaking Ghent is a soud choice; as it is centrally located to all of the choice places to visit. However, Brussels has far more depth and otpions as to dining and night life.

I ask of all the fortunate ones that have experienced this promised land, brussels, or Ghent?

Having lived and studied in Gent/Ghent for over 10 years, I'd say stay in Bxl as your hub, as a trainride to both Ghent and Antwerp are only a good 30mins away.

Ghent is great for nightlife and dining as well though and is considered by many to have become the most happening town in Belgium, partly due to its large student population and good music scene. Can't pass up all the good beer venues in Bxl though...

Ghent is a must see but just less well-endowed for beer-hunting, and a good compromise for transport with plenty of service to wherever. Also check the Benelux forum for many, many, many -- I wouldn't say too many, but many many) similar discussions -- have a tiptoe through those. There are lots of Bruges vs. Ghent and Bruges vs. Brussels, so this is a nice twist.

No worries. It's kind of an obscure name for the region.

I think the European forums on here are well overdue for a reorganization.

I feel like it should be:
    • British Isles
    • Central Europe
    • Scandinavia & The Baltic States
    • Southern Europe
    • Belgium/France/Netherlands
    • Russia and Far Eastern Europe

Actually, change 'Scandinavia & The Baltic States' to 'Nordic and Baltic States'. I forgot about Finland. :stuck_out_tongue:

 Sure, sure. I doubt it will ever be changed anyway.
