This article explains the idea behind minimum pricing and ‘side benefit’ that is often used to justify it. Keep in mind that in many provinces the government has a monopoly on liquor sales, and importation including beer.

Only macro beer is really significantly more expensive here. A good quality craft IPA in a 473ml can will run you anywhere from C$2.50 to C$5.50 depending on what it is. A big BA stout in A 650ml bottle may run you upwards of C$15.00 to C$20.00 on the very high end. From my experience, this is pretty similar to US pricing.

Buck a Beer should be the new name for the mix a six section of expired beer.

Ill take back my comment on the pricing at $1. I can buy a case of Hamm's for about $13 a case. It's well under that price, and your not settling on just a cheap beer that's just cheap. It happens to be a damn good AAL, and if you like the style I don't see how you can beat it. Of course I want better beers too, different styles, buts it's also far less expensive than Bud/Miller/Coors or their equivelent.

    Two-fifty for a hi-ball and a buck and a half for a beer.

The societal costs of alcohol are very large, putting a floor is meant to help cover the costs and prevent drinking just for the sake of excess.

It may or may not work but it's hard for some Americans to swallow these types of things.
Not everyone in the world (or US) is obsessed with total personal freedom, some peoples choose things that benefit society over their own freedoms. It works well in some places and poorly in others for various reasons.

The average beer in Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic costs between under a Euro to just over one Euro and a few cents, and that is for half-liters worth of beer, and those beers are rarely seen as poor quality.

Ontario at least you can buy weed for dirt cheap among other things.. you wood choppers should be able to buy a case of cheap beer without an full blown law. Good luck with the cause though. The cheap beer around here is about 30 cents can.

I wish I enjoyed cheap beer. My range is around 9-15 per sixer, with some pricier bottles once in a while. Most people on this site have a hard time spending less than 3/4 dollars a beer (or way more if you're into expensive styles or a whale *****), but god bless some dirty 30s or suit cases for a party.

Yep, the beer I drink is pretty much all in that price range as well and I wish I liked the cheap stuff too. If I had to drink mass produced AAL's I would probably only drink beer a couple times a year rather than almost daily. If craft beer wasn't a thing I'd likely stick to liquor, I just never developed a taste for mass produced cheap beer and my wallet absolutely hates me for it. There are some beers I would really like to try but will likely never will because I have an informal rule about buying bombers due to the $/oz. I might buy one a year but the vast majority of the time I stick to 4-packs and 6-packs.

Yeah, I don't drink a ton of bombers. If I do, I try to keep them under 10 bucks (unless it's a special occasion) The other day, I bought a bomber of barista (coffee brown ale) by clown shoes for 5 dollars. I really felt like I was getting away with something.

The price floor was explained earlier...essentially we live in a nanny state. As for political contributions, these are capped and monitored in Canada. Corporate contributors are only allowed a certain amount to give, and they usually give the max to many prominent politicians.

In Ontario political speak, we would generally drop the oxy when describing our premier.
