100% agreed. Budweiser tastes far better from the can than bottle and even draft most of the time. unless the draft lines are in tip top order, can is hard to beat for Bud.

That makes a lot of sense... Do other large brewers use any similar tricks?

I am not aware of any other breweries that specifically utilize beechwood strips.

Also, part of the AB process is they utilize horizontal tanks as lagering vessels; the shorter vertical dimension of these horizontal tanks expedites the precipitation of proteins and polyphenols which a critical aspect of the lagering process. It is fairly common in the lager beer industry to utilize horizontal tanks so it is probably best to view this as a best practice vs. a trick.

Below is a photograph of the beechwood strips (chips) that AB uses:

I don't mind Bud bottles. Can do a can every once in a while. I absolutely despise it on tap.

So basically the reverse of all other beers.

If I drink one these days, it is usually from someone else's stash. Usually aluminum bottle or can. I do love those flag bottle.

I prefer High Life (not that you asked:slight_smile:)

Tap is best. I prefer cans to bottles. If I'm doing something where I'd be drinking an aal I'd need it to be portable.

Out of sheer curiosity, what states would it be illegal to re-introduce a "tab top" can? I doubt it would ever be put out again in steel, but I wouldn't know why a similar design couldn't be done in aluminum...

Another side note, there's a thing called the "Chill Chamber" which is a fridge that goes down to 22 degrees without freezing in a Bud/Bud Light aluminum bottle. There is something crazy about drinking 22 degree beer. It'is gimmicky, but cool.

New York and New Jersey are two that I know of, which have 1980s era anti-litter laws that banned "removable" tabs on self-opening beverage cans, as Sly Fox and Crown (can mfg.) found out after introducing their 360 can.

Oh, yeah, and on that era beer can, the lids w/pull tab on those cans were aluminum, the cylindrical body and bottom were steel. There were, of course, aluminum beer cans with removable "tab top" openings before the universal adoption of the current "stay-on" mechanism.

I have not had a Budweiser in many years since discovering craft. My memories of it were that it was a bit more bitter than Coors or Miller High Life and a little more flavorful. For a time, I considered myself superior to those who pounded that beechwood aged goodness in mass. As I have grown in my beer advocacy I have mellowed in my opinions, and become more open-minded (although I still and always will hate the Tide:slight_smile:). I drank my first Narragansett Lager last night and enjoyed the hell out it. It is very hot here in Alabama and that just hit the spot. I'll certainly never switch back to primarily macro lagers, but it might be time to revisit a few of them and see how they stack up.

To answer the question, bottles are best.

that looks like a great concept for a can.

im sure most folks knew "that guy" who would grip the top of the beer can with his teeth and proceed to rip the entire lid off the can. this looks like a much more practical way to turn that can into a cup.

I had my first Narragansett Lager a few days ago and I posted about it in this thread: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/no-love-for-aals.313784/page-4#post-3887205

    Cheers!

I wouldn't buy it, but for what it is, it isn't terrible. It's good cold with some pizza/hotdogs/burgers/etc, but with so many better options on the market, why bother? (sips Orval as I dine on roasted pork shoulder and new potatoes)
