Guessing that's due to being from Colorado? Much like I would rather have a bud heavy than a Spotted Cow...

If you have a Costco or Sam's club in your area check out their beer selection. My local one consistently has excellent sampler 24 packs from Stone, Ballast Point, and others. The best part is that the price leaves these quality beers around 1.25$ a pop (or less), which is super affordable! Usually it is a sampler of a few of their core beers -- highly recommended!

If it was me id grab an 18 pack of PBR lol. They have them around here for $13

You may not get Flying Fish but they go for $8.25 a six pack here, not sure if they sell out of NJ because ive never been anywhere else. i think but its less than $9 a sixer. For an APA, English IPA, Dubbel or Hoppy Red you can't beat that for anything.

Also. In NJ in my area, Lagunitas anything is $13 mimimum from what i saw lol at budget beer. At least not for me.

Here's an easier said than done solution. Take every other week off from drinking and stick to your regular drinking routine every other week. So you'll suffer a week for a weeks' reward instead of suffering every week drinking something you may not enjoy as much.

Lagunitas IPA is a good budget buy. Hello, at close to 10 percent and 9.99 a 6ers around me, Brown Shugga isn't a bad bet either.

The big players within the craft-beer market usually offers some really affordable options. I'm thinking Lagunitas, Bell's, Stone and Sierra Nevada. Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA is probably my favorite beer-for-dollar option. A 75cl bottle for $2.99, or a 12-pack for slightly above $10? Can't beat that.

But if you 'only' go through a six-pack or two a week, then $15-20 should not limit you substantially. I'm in Minnesota, and can fairly easily get a six-pack worth of local beers for 10-11 bucks, including Minnesota's pride Surly. I don't know about the selection in Illinois, but I would suspect one could get a fairly good local six-pack for $10, right?

Trader Joe's beer. Their "German" line isn't bad. Grab a 6er of Hefe or DunkelWeizen and a 6er of Stockyard Stout. That's $14 and good stuff for days.

Genuinely curious why you consider growlers as being an option when on a budget? The absolute cheapest growler in my area is during happy our from local brewers for $10 and they need to be finished in just a few days. While many six packs are the same cost and more volume, even better deal with the 12 pack varieties. I actually stopped getting growler fills for a long while due to the high cost. Not being in the craft beer scene terribly long, is this a regional thing? I just don't see how growlers are a budget option at all.

Your mileage may vary... When I was unemployed, I limited myself to two bombers a week (One for Friday. One for Saturday). 22 oz bombers usually run in the $8 ~ $12 range. A 64 oz growler usually runs in the $10 ~ $12 range... That's almost three bombers for the price of one.

As I lifelong budget drinker I have come to appreciate the beers I previously mentioned such as Genny Cream Ale or PBR (among others). I can buy a six pack or two of higher priced beers and then drink 1 of those followed by the cheap beers as a second (or third if I have more than two in a session). Most people's taste buds are somewhat dulled after the first beer anyway. If you follow a format similar to mine you can stretch your beer dollars, regardless of your rate of consumption or overall weekly beer budget. It works for me.

I'd mix it up between a nice cheapie (DAB 16oz. can sixers are $7, and my go-to budget beer lately) , giving me room to get some regular priced seasonal sixer/bomber combination- especially if you can push it to $20. Stuff that's nice, but not too expensive, like Stone or Lagunitas.

    Love it--budget or no budget.

If you're looking to budget 20 large a week on craft beers I'd say you're of the same preference I am. I'm a college student and I spend about $20 every two weeks on beer. That's two 6's which comes to one beer a day every day except Fridays (fast day) for two weeks. I drink Flying Dog Bloodline, Counter Culture, Snake Dog, and Cougar, and New Belgium Fat Tire and 1554. 1554 is an amazing beer btw; they dug up a recipe from 1554 and made it beer. :grinning: Yuengling is always good, and that is the entirety of my current beer repertoire.
