Didn't know Genny Cream was an IPA.

But to the point of these "beer on a budget" threads, much depends on where you are. Beers that are inexpensive in one part of the country can have quite a markup in another location due to transport, taxes etc. If you're just starting a discussion, fine, but if you're looking for specific recommendations to your question, you might post in your regional thread, Northwest.

I just wanted to report that in Maryland most of that CA beer is much more. I've seen Racer 5 six pack for as high as $18.99 but usually priced closer to $10. Lagunitas as low as $8.99 but typically much higher. Dirtwolf and Firestone are close but add mabye $2 and I've never seen any Deschutes. Just FYI

Only reason I thought of it is that we just got it last year for the first time.

I can find 3-5 week old Cigar City Jai Alai for $10.99 a sixer at some grocery stores here in NYC. That's about as cheap as it gets in the city for craft brew!

I think my definition of a budget beer is different than others. $9 a six pack is not budget beer for me. In Kansas we can pick up Boulevard on the cheep. Their 20 packs of Wheat and Pale Ale are usually about $18-20. I like Shiner's variety pack for a budget option. Their 12 pack goes for about $15 around here. That's not exactly answering your question about IPA's but I'm not as much of an IPA guy (although Boulevard's Tank 7 is awesome).

You're right, let me correct myself and add as another poster stated 10 dollar Moosehead 12s and 20 dollar Warsteiner suitcases.
    THAT'S budget beer!

It's almost always Deschutes *anything* for me. As my avatar suggests, I'm kind of a fan.
In this neck of the woods it's almost always really fresh, and for $6.99 a sixer across their standard lineup, very hard to beat. Even at $9.99, Fresh Squeezed is totally worth it for an amazing, unique IPA.

I'd like to say Lagunitas too, but I actually have a pretty tough time finding their stuff really fresh around here.

Honorable Mention: New Belgium standard lineup *anything*, and their seasonals are normally good too. Solid beers across the board for as low as $6.50 a sixer here. I mean, Rampant may not be world-class, but a solid DIPA at 8.5% ABV for $6.50 a sixer?! I'm not sure how they're making money on that.

    Howdy,
In my neck of the woods it's usually Smuttynose Finest Kind IPA or Bells Two Hearted. Both around $10 a sixer at the local grocery store.
