I enjoy people bashing "large corporate business practices." Making large piles of money is ingrained in the American dream, as is doing something you love. Beer is something people love. Making large piles of money making beer seems like an awesome business model to me. And it also occurs to me that when someone else is making a large pile of money, we all get a little jealous.

It's only interesting to the people on this site as people who care about brewmasters. No this commercial is not going to make anyone on this site go out and buy a 30 of bud.

this. not particularly slick nor disingenuous, but nor is it laudable or new or anything. bud has brewers. they're good at what they do, like most serious workers. (shrug)

that you think the latter fantasy is even possible illustrates your lack of understanding of the criticism you're deriding. you do not understand the modus operandi of big business.

It sure doesn't seem like you enjoy it. Unless you're a masochist.

I recognize that you hate WalMart, GM and any other "players" of the big business world. It's a basic philosophical argument. I won't get into a poitical/ social dust-up with you. It's neither the time nor place.

I'm not sure if a commercial like this (or rather a broader advertising campaign which this commercial is part of) actually changes anyone's perception of Budweiser, but I can see the angle that they are going for, of plugging the "authenticity" of the product, i.e there being real people out there that are making a real product, as obvious of a point as that may seem.

It makes sense I think for AB to try and plant this concept in the minds of the consumers, inbetween the regular beer commercials (theirs and others) which typically treats the product like a generic prop (since alot of advertising these days seems to shy away from making a hard sell and calling attention to the product directly), which in turn makes the brand/product seem like just that, a generic prop among others of its kind when sitting on store shelves. Associating a human face, or faces with a product (faces that are relevant and connected to the product that is) might go some ways toward helping it stand out in the consumer's mind, instead of it blending into the background. That's my take on it at least. The intent is one thing, the effect is another, and so for all their intents and purposes this ad or ad campaign might do nothing at all for the brand and its sales. I still find it an interesting concept, as someone who is interested in advertising to some extent.

are you familiar with their success at capturing the esteem or money of craft beer fans? when you think for even 5 minutes, do you still think AC Golden = what was being described in the post i was criticizing?

it's not about how i feel about anything, it's your inability to understand how competition works. even suggesting what you did in your post implies that you think say, walmart, would go into a new place, open up a walmart, and fund all its "mom and pop" competitors. think about how stupid that idea is. now think about the fact that you said "even if BMC did THAT craft beer fans would hate them!" as if that would ever happen.

AC Golden is doing quite well here in Colorado collecting money and respect from the local craft beer fans.

And I think AC Golden is exactly what comes of a Macro devoting some funds and resources to their brewers to play with and create some high quality, interesting beers. Which is exactly what that post you were responding to was talking about.

Your Liberal ideas clash with my Con ideas. Let's leave it at that and have a Torpedo. You're not stupid, and neither am I, tho' you imply differently.

for what it's worth, i don't believe i've ever stated or fully implied that anyone on BA was stupid. i accuse people of staying stupid things, holding stupid ideas/"opinions", or of acting like an idiot, but those are all very different than calling someone stupid.

in fact, you could make a pretty good case for the premise that if you're seriously engaging someone and alerting them to the stupidity of what they're saying, this implies directly that you don't already believe them to be stupid outright. case may not be *that* convincing, but i could argue for it (shrug).

re: denver10 and AC golden, reread his post. he wasn't just saying "if a big company targets beer aficionados somewhere." really; try again. don't argue with me--just think for one minute about how your tack might not be the right one. it will be illuminating.

    ---

on further thought, i realize i've said exactly "what you're saying entails that you're too stupid to talk to." (: which reaffirms the gist of what i'm saying above, but yeah. i only say it when there's no reason to say anything else.

Pahn, yer previous posts confirm that that you are not in love of "big business". No biggie. It's your opinion, and you are entitled to it. Don't really give a rats azz if you hate or love the "big boyz". Your opinion, and you're entitled to it. I love Mom and Pop too, but they are the wave of the past, not the future. Own it.

Good beer will make you say things that you normally wouldn't say otherwise ,and for this reason, I "forgive " beer.

It's all in fun, the BMC bashing. And wasn't it Budwiser select that won a gold medal ( I do not know the category) at this years GABF? Congrats to them and yay Baldwinsville! that's right close to me.

Do you have a reputable source you can cite for the claim that AB uses rice syrup for Budweiser? All their promotional material has always noted they use "milled rice", and they even owned their own subsidiary rice mills (they still own the one in Arkansas, but post-InBev sold a Calif. mill).

While InBev did change some aspects of the brewing of Bud - switching from whole hops to pellets probably the most notable - I have not seen anything on the use of rice syrup.

I have to disagree, the worst beer ever made was probably my first foray into home brewing! But then how would you know that? Just sayin..................
