I had to advance my brew schedule to today. My first BIAB. I know I need to keep the bag off the bottom when / if I need to re-heat the water. Most people use a stainless colander. I have a false bottom with no hardware that sits perfectly in the bottom of my 8 gallon megapot. Would the domed false bottom provide enough thermal buffering?

You wont need to reheat the water, as long as you put the lid on your kettle and cover it with a towel or blanket. I do extended mashes with BIAB (sometimes as much as 6 hours) and dont have enough temp drop to need to reheat during the mash. You'll lose around 1-2 degrees per hour of mashing, not enough to worry about.
