Anyone have a built in kegerator who can clear up a couple of questions? First, what type cabinet would I get for a 24" built-in, a dishwasher cabinet? Also, if I'm going to have the tower on top of the countertop, is there some type of extension for air cooled towers that goes from the kegerator opening to the tower's bottom? All the kegerator's I see online have the tower bolted to the kegerator top. I assume the tower is unscrewed and then installed on the countertop, but it will need an extension.
You need to be careful that you get a unit that is specifically meant to be built in. It will have it's exhaust underneath in the front. Building in a regular kegerator will lead to issues and early failure of the unit. The tower does unscrew, and you subsequently attach it to the counter top. You make a collar out of PVC pipe to span the distance from the top of the unit to the underside of the counter. I've never seen an extension factory made for this purpose.
I am planning the front exhaust built in but all the ones I looked at have the tower bolted to the top and the rail that goes around. You would think that if they are marketed as built-in, they would know the towers will be remoted to top of counters.
I think a reason for that is many built in units are also rated for outdoor use. The PVC collar does the trick. Look for one with a tower cooler as well.
I found one with the tower cooler, but I can't believe I have to jury-rig a PVC extension and they don't make a factory one for countertop installations. Anyone got plans or parts needed to attack the PVC to both the refer and the tower?
