I really want Providence to have a good time as well. Have you thought about going to CBC? Maybe you can even swing over to the publick house before last call. If you go anywhere else make sure to hit up Armsby Abbey. It's out of the way but they have a really good grilled cheese.

Armsby is great and worth the drive and only about 15-20 minutes from Julios!

Seeing as Providence is staying in Cambridge (for 1 night, mind you) to attend a show in the Boston/Allston area, he and Mrs. Providence should really hop on the Downeaster to check out Novare Res in Portland, ME.

Hope you guys have a blast!

When visiting the Cambridge Bukowski, be prepared for music loud enough to mess with your ability to communicate with the server.

This can be maddening if you suffer from tinnitus, as a good 1/3 of the people living within a five-mile radius of Bukowski do.

    Not in my experience.

Agreed. I've been there on a Saturday night on more than one occassion, and it was a very quiet chill atmosphere. No loud music to speak of.

Just wanted to follow up. We did end up switching the plan to Deep Ellum. Initially, I didn't realize that it was within walking distance to the Paradise Rock Club. For some reason I thought it was way of the beaten path. In any event, we went and it was tremendous. A wide variety of Eastern European lagers were available and I fell in love with all of them. Additionally, the food was excellent. I grabbed the charcuterie plate which had whipped lardo on it. Yikes! I rarely eat stuff like that so it was a nice treat.

As great as all the beer was and the food, I must say that I was particularly thrilled with the pour of 20 year old Pappy Van Winkle I sprung for.

Oh, the soft pretzels and mustard where an awesome pair with those lagers. Kick ass place. Thanks for the conversation in this thread!

Sounds like a great time, Providence. Deep Ellum has the best beer selection in the city. How did The Darkness sound?

Amazing. They played a kick ass show. Justin Hawkins climbed up to the upper level and swan dived into the crowd. The music was rock solid too.

Even though I have been to Lord Hobo and absolutely loved it, I would say Deep Ellum takes the cake.

Fluke, since day one, you've made it quite clear you could care less about Providence's enjoyment whether it be in Cambridge or Boston (two different cities <wink>). And I think that's sad.

if you're in the mood for german beers, deep ellum often has the best selection in the city i think. i see they have CBC bad knees on tap, so if i were staying with my friends in allston right now i'd have no reason to go anywhere else in the city for beer.

for other hot shot beers i think lord hobo and others often overshadow deep ellum a bit, and of course 95% of the time i'd suggest going directly to CBC (it's like a "why go to the bar in waterbury VT for that hot shot founders release they have if you live near hill farmstead?" kind of thing).

all that said, i'm kind of hungry right now and daydreaming about that deep ellum taco place.

What I also loved about Deep Ellum was that the bar was long, so even though we had to wait for a table we were able to get a seat right at the bar on a Saturday night. That was kick ass. By the time my half liter of pils was done it was time to sit down. Perfect.
