Me and a few friends are heading up to Burlington from CT August 18-20 mostly for a beer weekend. What breweries/bars are a must go to? I've been reading up a little and so far Foam seems like the most popular. Also looking to bring home a nice variety of cans so looking for a good package store too. Or just any other ideas of fun things to do in the area? Thanks in advance!
No offense but there are tons of thread on Vermont beer trips. In short foam Burlington beer company fiddlehead frost zero gravity all in Burlington area. Alchemist about 45 min away hillfarmstead 1.5 hours from Burlington . For food: farmhouse, American flatbread, hen of woods, skinny pancake, cheaper option with good taplist Manhattan pizza Bars with good taplist: manhattan, mule bar, archives, finigans Bottleshops: beverage warehouse, pearl street beverage, city market, I'm sure I missed a bunch
I'll bump this thread. Mainly because I too am going to Burlington about two weeks after the OP. I do my homework. Seems like Farmhouse, Mule, and Manhattan are must-hit beer bars. Bev Warehouse seems to be the best bottle shop. I'm no rookie either, I've had Heady and FB and Sunshine so it's not like I'm out there chasing them down like omg. So anyone from the area or anyone with experience have any pro tips? I'll be going up for 2-3 days in early-late September.
Go mid-week in early September after school starts before leaf peeping season tend to be a slower time of year beer wise. Pearl street beverage can has some "rarer " stuff sitting on the shelf collecting dust be sure to look. Be sure to hit foam, Burlington bee company has become a great spot also
Hey, longtime beer lover with a quick question regarding VT growler laws and fills. It appears that Foam will fill out of state clean growlers, can I get a confirmation along with River Roost? Cheers and as always...Hail the Whale!!!
Vt law allows breweries to fill any growlers but retailers/stores with growler stations require the store branded growlers
By "non-branded", I meant not their brand. All others are fine. Believe they prefer 750 swing tops. If you bring non-swingtop 32s or 64s, best remember your caps. Hint: bring a few extra! That's right, that new Mass "loophole"!
802 on North Ave has a good selection without the crowds that the Winooski Bevy gets on release days. http://802bws.com/craft-beer/4507699 Mcgillicudy's in Williston gets fantastic kegs (Tony is very knowledgeable) and the prices for pours are a fraction of the downtown bars. The Pine St. corridor (Zero Grav, Arts Riot, Great Northern, Cit Cider, Switchback, Queen City) is as good as it gets without all the Church St. BS.
Will they fill the stainless steel 32 ounce growlers with the larger mouths? I have a Bruery Reserve society growler that hasn't gotten much use I'd like to take on our trip in a few weeks
I was very disappointed in Fiddlehead. Not much of a selection..but the pizza place next door was good and you can BYOB. Agree with others - Foam is awesome. Definitely go to Prohibition Pig in Waterbury. It's about 20 minutes away from The Alchemist.
