Firestone Walker's Double Barrel Ale was my best beer discovery last year and I drank a ton of it. I just bought my first 6 pack of it of the new year (after taking a break from it over the winter) and discovering that I managed to burn myself out on this great beer. I just can't get into this time around; every time I take a sip I am being told that I need to take more time off before returning.

    Total bummer.

Whatever. Burnout happens. Drink different beers for a while, come back refreshed.

    Easier said than done, imo.

DBA was my staple beer last year. It was always in my fridge, it always hit the spot and satisfied me. Lately Red Chair is doing that for me, and far better than DBA has, but Red Chair is seasonal. I always buy mixed sixers and enjoy having that one staple beer in the fridge to drink alongside the mixers.

Maybe this opens the door for a new discovery but its always nice to have your one trusted friend as a go to.

Yes, burnout is something I try to avoid at all costs ... I'm always switching it up from a can of Narragansett to a lambic to a RIS to a hop bomb.

I once spent a summer drinking mostly DIPAs (aside from beers I needed to review) and nearly stopped being a hophead.

I love my Two Hearted, it can usually be found in my fridge but I never come close to drinking it exclusively. Keeping a good variety in your rotation allows you to enjoy your staple beers on a regular basis and not experience burn out. Keep it around, just add more variety around it.

Yeah, I always felt as though I varied things up pretty well. But clearly that was not the case.

    Lesson learned....I hope.

You gotta switch up the styles. There's a reason that so many are out there.

As others are saying, diversity is the key! Burnout won't happen if you keep a diverse lineup on hand.

I don't drink it often, but it is a tasty one.

    Cheers!

Why you would want to drink that much of one beer is beyond my reasoning abilities (though I'd understand if you were talking about NN if it were year round).

It's funny you mention that, because when I picked up my sixer of Nugget Nectar, I was chatting with the beer guy about it and he said that a guy came in earlier and bought 4 cases of it.

It's like Frank's bridge friend says in an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: "I used to have some jean shorts like that too. I slept in them shits man. Eventually I blew the crotch out of them things. You can't wear them everyday and expect for them to hold up... You gotta take 'em off every now and then. You gotta take 'em off, son!"

Wiser words have never been spoken.

Always keep a variety of styles and brands in your fridge, and you won't have to worry about burn-out. That being said, DBA is a very fine beer that i could drink quite often.

I love DBA so that does sound like a terrible situation, just give it some more time. I took a couple weeks off drinking after new years to let my palate (and tolerance) readjust and it's worth it.

Damn. I was hoping you meant Barclay Perkins DBA.

Lately I've been incorporating a lot more lagers, of all sorts, into my rotation. I also like to throw in some no fuss, low priced, low ABV brews, just to lighten things up a bit.

"for every beautiful woman, there's a guy tired of banging her"

My approach to Hopslam this year has left me in much the same boat. I pretty much won't allow myself to drink anything other than the 30 Hopslams I bought until they are all drunk (as we all know they are falling off rapidly). Trying to drink a years worth of IIPAs in a 3 week period. I've still got 10 left. I know Double Trouble and Hoptimum are out there lurking too and I can barely get excited for them. Don't get me wrong, the Hopslam is still delicious but I am ready to move on at this point.

I dont think I have drank the same beer more than 3x in the same week in about 2 years.

    Cheers!
