You just need to move to the Pacific Northwest. That way your beer preferences will always (nearly) match the weather.

People who think that lagers are a style shouldn't be busting any myths about beer.

*Yes @marquis and @jesskidden , I know there's a type of beer called lagerbier, but you know what I'm getting it.....

this is going to sound completely ridiculous & obscene but bear with me. it's your beer. you paid for it. believe it or not, you are free to do whatever you choose with it whenever it is you choose to do so.

This seasonal preference goes back to the breweries too. Unless you stock up for the year you won't likely get a Southern Tier Choklat in August or a Bell's Oberon in January. Styles are all typically released based on the season they are most popular to be drank. (except Stone IRS which is released n April/May?)

Stout \ staut \ n : a dark heavy ale that tastes good as hell at temperatures between Witches Titties and Equador.

I drink stouts year round as well but there is something extra special about a cold evening and nice hearty Imperial stout.
We have had cool temperatures in Southern Cali lately, and this has caused me to drink imperial stouts and barley wines the IPAs are just sitting in the fridge.

I drink all styles of beer year round. Whatever is calling out my name will taste fantastic if that's what I'm craving no matter what the temperature is outside.

I have a feeling this business about only drinking "heavier" beers (i.e.-stouts, etc.) began way before the invention of air conditioning! Gimme my stouts anytime:rolling_eyes:

Most Beeradvocate's who prefer them in the winter, I would assume, are referring to Imperial stouts. In which case these are three characteristics of that style that I think most would prefer in winter months, and want to avoid during the heat.....

    1) High alcohol

    2) Sweet flavors

    3) Thicker bodies (mouthfeel people, not women....)

Supposed to be around 60 in the Bronx this evening. Don't mind if I crack open a Stone IRS (with proper glassware).

Honestly: Does anyone else get rotten egg farts from certain stouts?

I agree there are exceptions, I even listed Stone's IRS that has a spring release. But from what I typically see most stouts are fall/winter releases with a few being either year round or spring/summer releases.

    How is this a myth?
A myth would be more like: "Stouts were originally created to feed bears before they went into hibernation"
