Hey guys, new here to BA, first time posting. I'm from Dunedin FL (just outside of TPA) heading up to Chicago (around the Rosemont area) from Jan 11-14 and I'm looking to find some good places to hit while I'm there. There's obviously 3 Floyds and the obligatory Goose Island but i was wondering what you all recommended in the general area? I'm willing to make the transit for some good brews and definitively for some releases but I'm not sure on what to go for with my limited time in town. Thanks for the suggestions!
Lots of other posts on this topic in other threads so you can search them out. Geez, if you have a car there are lots of things on the near north side or right in Chicago (Piece, Half Acre, Kuma's Corner, Lagunitas, GI, Revolution, Haymarket). I could go on and on. Don't limit yourself to FFF, it's far from Rosemont (like an hour drive), not much near it, and you'll likely have a wait. If no car, use Uber or a cab and you can hit all these places. Went to HS in New Port Richey so gotta help a fellow from south out.
If you have a car And want a little road trip you can hit fff, 18th Street, greenbush, dark horse, & bells all in one day. If you make it a two day trip you can hit Founders, perrin, and oddsides as well. Otherwise I'd stay local and hit the places already listed. Check fff website for each day and only hit it if there is something you really want. The time and effort to get there and wait usually isn't worth it with so much else to do in the city.
Visited Chicago in May.....if you have the time, go to 3 Floyds, it's not that bad a drive and you may be able to get right in if visiting during the week as opposed to weekend (I went on a Thursday afternoon and was able to walk right in). I'd also recommend Half Acre and Revolution, enjoyed both of them. Another thought if you have a car and time, drive up into southern WI (I went to Kenosha, was about an hour drive from airport) and pick up some New Glarus and other WI stuff. Enjoy your trip!
You could take the Blue Line into the city from Rosemont if you don't have a car. Revolution, Piece, and Kuma's are all easily accessible from Blue Line stops.
Awesome, thanks guys for the input, I'm looking forward to it and will keep you posted on my ventures. Cheers!
Revolution would be my #1 recommendation. A very short walk from the California blue line stop. But all of the above recommendations are also worthwhile. Enjoy the visit to Chicago!
Where are you staying? That'll help us make recommendations more specific to your area. You mentioned Goose Island; if you're going to the Clybourn brewpub (which you should, especially this time of year), stop by the Binny's across the street. They've got a taproom with a good beer selection, and you can walk around the store and drink whatever you order there. Definitely second Revolution (both the brewpub and taproom are good bets) and Half Acre (Bad Apple is right across the street if you want a good burger to eat at the taproom). Corridor Brewery and Provisions just opened up on Southport, and it's a pretty cool little place (and their year-round APA Wizard Fight is excellent)...I could go on, but let us know where you're staying first!
Surprised no one has mentioned Binnys yet. It is a giant beer and liquor store chain. There are a lot of locations but the one in Lincoln Park usually has the best location. If you're looking to bring beers home then that is the place to stock up. Tons of local and out-of-state options at MSRP prices - Pipeworks, Spiteful, Off Color, Half Acre, Rev, . Also the Foremost Liquor near Rosemont in Arlignton Heights on Algonquin used to have a huge selection of Pipeworks but a little overpriced - haven't been there in a while. Good luck hunting!
Agreed with Binny's. If you're looking for bottle shops Beermiscuous and Beer Temple come to mind. Local Option has a large offering with 20+ lines.
