Anyone know where I can find Voodoo Pilzilla right now? I'm curious about how it compares to Mahr's Ungespundet-hefetrüb, both being Keller Biers.

Also, do you know what the price point is by the bottle or by the case? Is it hard to get?

Havent seen it in quite some time, and have no idea about its availability.

Either way they are both great beers, similar... but different and all very tasty.

I have had a few bottles of Pilzilla and they have been quite different from Mahr's Ungespundet-hefetrüb. While Pilzilla is unfiltered, I would ‘summarize’ that beer as being a high alcohol hoppy Pilsner. I think the below description from BA provides good details about this beer:

“Pilzilla is a beer that I've been brewing for years. Each year it gets bigger and bigger. Nicknamed "The beer that took over Tokyo". It is an unfiltered Keller Bier. Nicley hopped at this point with 6 to 7 different kinds of hops and about 6.25 % ABV Each year we will add another variety of hop and bump the alcohol a bit. This is not your average pilsner, get it before we drink it all! Prost!!”

Mahr's Ungespundet-hefetrüb is what I call a Franconian Kellerbier; it has moderate alcohol and the flavor of the beer is a balance of bready malt and moderate hop flavors (along with a yeasty ‘bite’).

I would highly encourage you to buy some Pilzilla but I would temper your expectations as regards it tasting like Mahr's Ungespundet-hefetrüb.

FWIW, I can purchase bottles of Pilzilla at my local Wegmans (SEPA).

    Cheers!

I agree with this. I actually also had these two beers recently.

The Mahr's is more traditional in flavor. Lots of honey notes, nice bready sweetness, a bit of grassy and floral hops.
The PILZILLA is quite different and more "American" with the hopping. A less sweetness, more of a crackery malt, and a big punch of hops on the finish.

I wouldn't expect very similar beers, but both are phenomenal.

Mahr's Ungespundet should not have any honey notes if consumed fresh (as it is intended to be).

I love me some Pilzilla...not sure where you can get it in your area, but I've seen it in some case shops in SEPA, but more often in places like Whole Foods. I cannot remember a specific price point, but I believe cases were running just over $50. I may spot some tomorrow, if I do, I can report some price points.

Most Wegman's in SEPA carry virtually their entire lineup in single bottles as well.

Not much like the Mahr's at all - it should probably be classed an imperial pilsner, even though it's unfiltered. I found it at one of the Whole Foods markets in Manhattan recently.

I'm in Clearfield Pa and I have been carrying it for a few years. I sell enough of it I'm considering
putting some of it on draft. I would think some of the big boys within a 2.5 hour drive of me would have it.
