I think ZD, Perm Funeral, should land some fresh PtE bottles?

One note on pliny bottles. Although there are a lot better IPA's out there these days, a bottle of pliny is still a good bargain at around $5. Hell, most bars are charging $7-8 for a glass. And sometimes it's not a proper pour. So it's still a great beer for the price of a bottle.

Alpine and RR are equal in the over hyped IPA list these days. Both great breweries with great IPAs, neither are the best out there now. If you have access to either great, if not, oh well plenty of equally great IPAs out there.

Eh, Pliny is great for what it is but they hype is just SO GREAT on it that it's almost impossible for it NOT to be over-hyped. Same would be true for almost any beer with that much hype.

I'll agree, too, that there are TONS of great IPAs out there nowadays--many even much more readily available than Pliny or Alpine's, but...

Alpine's IPAs are still pretty amazing (when they're on...I've tasted some bad batches recently--in the bottle and on tap). I'm not ready to call them over-hyped yet. Not even close.

I have access to seemingly all the IPA's I can think of that are great. In my opinion Alpine IPA's are at another level. I've drank Pliny, BlindPig, Citra, and of course all world class San Diego beers and Nelson is not only the best of these, it's not even close.

Yes, I would have to say Alpine beers these days are starting to wear on me. But Nelson is still my favorite beer. It's just that these days ABC's contract brewing out of GF seems like the quality has gone south a bit. It's just not the same as coming out of Alpine. Maybe it's a good thing I don't have access to Alpine beers everyday here in OC. Spreading all this good beer out is good. I get a little bit of Societe every week around the corner if I want. Beachwood is always a 10-20 minute drive away. BCB (although not on the map) has been putting out some really great beers these days. And they're practically in my backyard. Evan @ Noble is just "killing" it with almost everything he brews. And the boards full of hoppiness. Where I work I got ESBC, Smog and now Three Weavers. So I'm pretty much surrounded with great beers. Pliny is an appetizer these days.

Where are you getting Societe in OC?

And I 2nd Noble killing it these days. That Citra Yum Yum was off the charts good.

Almost every week BTs Southern BBQ in HB has Societe on tap. And they always update on Taphunter. 3 blocks from the house!

Lots of opinions being stated as facts in this thread!

Seriously though, the OP asked where to find PLINY, not where to find (other) world class IPA's.

Every time I hear someone ask, "why do you want Pliny, when you can have Alpine," all I can think is asking, "why would you want to drive a Ferrari when you can drive a Lamborghini?"... If you drive a nice, comfortable and reliable Lexus everyday, then both the Ferrari and Lambo would be a nice change of pace...

Have they ever blown up their garage brewing up some "pliny?"

If they blow up the grocery and the liquor store, I would be wicked impressed.
