I was just wondering if anyone has had any success in buying Westvleteren online. I want to try it and it seems a lot easier than goin to Belgium. I was looking at this site http://www.westvleterenbeers.com/products/
    Any thoughts?

If not able to afford the $1200 it will cost to fly just one person to Belgium at this time - not to mention hotels, car rental, etc this might be the next best thing. If $25 for a 12oz bottle of your dream beer is not a deal breaker then do it. There are other beer options out there though but do what you gotta do. You probably know from this site that Rochefort and St Bernardus are every bit as good but,,,,

    Please, don't buy at Belgiuminabox...

    Try a trade with Belgium.

I have bought from Belgium in a box several times. Nothing but an excellent experience.
Is it expensive, yes. But go for a splurge.

my suggestion is buy enough so that the shipping gets spread out over many beers. They have a shipping calculator that let's you know how many bottles you can add before shipping increases.

hope you pull the trigger and enjoy.

I can't agree more with this. You will easily save some money doing a trade with someone over here if you really must have the Westvleteren XII. Message almost anyone active in the BENELUX forum and most will gladly help someone out.

Kurt at Belgium in a Box is a good dude. He helped me out with shipping beer I didn't even buy from him, but didn't have room to put on the plane when I visited Belgium last week.

I bought Westy there and elsewhere on my visit to Belgium and prices are comparable at €10-12 at shops in Bruges. Shipping gets you but there isn't a markup (in fact, it is much cheaper than it I send using FedEx internationally) and same thing happens trading internationally when you send your own box.

I just went to belgiuminabox and figured out the cost -- it will be around $54 with shipping.

Are you saying that's way too much to spend for a single bottle of one of the world's best beers that's unavailable in the US?

I gave mine away as Xtras in a trade, I don't like Belgian beers. Haven't seen the Westy brick around in a while, but it sold slowly due to the hefty price tag that came with it.

Try an IP or US trade. Way cheaper and there is definitely Westy XII around.

etre gourmet is pretty good too. Bought from them a few times. Excellent packaging and customer service. A little cheaper too. You can also buy things like cantillon and 3f there but the selection has dwindled in the past few months.

It's not impossible to trade for with even folks here in the U.S. Some nice BA might even trade it to you at actual cost.

Last year I got a crate of Westy 12 from Belgiuminabox. The price was kinda high, but the shipping pushrd the thing to about $400. $17 is a lot for a beer , but I've had worse transactions.

    Ok, let's just do this:

I have a few bottles of Westy 12, and might be up for trading one. Just send me a message and we'll try to work something out.

I appreciate the offer, but I actually just worked out a trade for a bottle. If I like it, we may be able to work something out if the offer still stands.

I just got a bottle of Westvleteren XII, the price that I payed would terrifying everyone here (I've payed about U$S 100)

but as I was absolutely obsessed to have that beer, I think I did the right thing.
