Are there places around the Denver area who don’t mind you bringing in your own bottles for consumption on-site? If you have experience with this or know places that allow this please chime in.

    Cheers!

yeah, my house. Nyuk nyuk nyuk :sunglasses:

I have not heard confirmation of places allowing this. Rumors hold that some places will charge a "corking" fee. What is your purpose? Restaurants?

Good beer's pretty easy to get around here - I've often wondered this about Vegas. I've got a bottle of Bligh's I'd love to crack open at a nice restaurant, but something tells me that wouldn't fly.

Haha, no occasion, just kind of curious. I have a growing cellar, but still like to go out and usually stay out, so the cellar keeps growing. Just wondering if I could have a few beers and bring a few special ones in to enjoy with friends, as well. More curiosity than anything. Just thought it would be cool to go to a brewery/pub for tastings.

In my experience if a place charges a corkage fee for wine, they will allow you to do the same with beer (usually at a slightly reduced rate)

Looks like we need to have a cellar clearing tasting!

Just off the top of my head, Bull/Bush and Wynkoop may be the most flexible since they're pretty much established places and serve food. If I see Marty tomorrow I can ask (memory depending)

The back room at Wynkoop would be cool as hell to have a tasting.

As long as you share with the workers most breweries will let you. You don't want to bring a six pack but usually a couple bombers are fine as long as you buy some of theirs.

Not sure if they still do it, but I know Avery holds (or held) tastings once a month where you can bring in bottles to share. I think most people bring homebrew, but as I understand it, they're not picky.

Of course with that, there's the drive to Boulder...

My experience (not having explored the corking fee option), you basically need to make some friends at places to make this happen. I have had no problem at breweries (we did a mini back room tasting at the recent Avery sour release), but not sure about restaurants/brew pubs. Just tread lightly, and minus the corking fee option, don't expect to just walk into a place. You will likely have to make arrangement ahead of time.

Talked to Marty at Wynkoop. They don't have a problem IF you're throwing a private party. Legally, they can't allow "off the street" stuff. And he strongly emphasized homebrew tastings, as they have those every now and again.

Dry Dock/The Brew Hut host homebrew tastings pretty regularly. While most items are homebrew, I always seem to see bottles of things like Bells and New Glarus in the mix, too.

It's illegal in the state of Colorado to bring off premise purchases on primese to consume. Everything has to go through the amazing 3 tier system we have set up. Unless an owner wants to allow you on the hush, your SOL

    Wine laws might be different.

This is what confused me, but I've asked around and Colorado does NOT allow corkage.

Whatcha mean by corkage? You can walk into a place order a bottle of wine drink some and have them cork it for you and you can walk out with it. The other way around though, im not sure...

haha...the other way around. I meant corkage fee: walking into a place with a bottle purchased elsewhere and open it (or walk in with it already open) is a no-no. At least, it is if that place has a liquor license. Not sure about places like Wendy's et al....
