This. I bought and split a bottle of Power Plant the same day it was bottled. I was stoked to try it so fresh. While I wouldn't call it a bad beer, I wouldn't not purchase it again. The booziness was just over the top for my taste.

I guess I am getting old (or am old), but I don't need the extra ABV (7-9% is enough for me) and don't really understand the appeal of an 11%+ TIPA that is "smooth" or where you can "barely notice the alcohol" - I also find the TIPAs to be on the cloying side, if anything. Man, as I type this I realize I am sounding like CatchyName!

Hoping to try it this weekend!

Power Plant is super boozy. The last batch before this I got a slight rubbing alcohol taste to it. Not a good thing.

Eagle rock pumped up "populist" to 11% for their anniversary.. It was bomb ..
I loved Power plant. If you think 10 bucks for power plant is too much- populist is going for 12.99 in the valley .:rolling_eyes:

Artifex / Acoustic AA Meeting and Black Market Seek & Destroyed. I tried the AA Meeting and it's a tad malty, one of those darker coloured DIPA's. Haven't tried the Seek & Destroyed yet as it hasn't hit LA/OC distro yet.

No one has mentioned Drakes Hopoclypse Black Label TIPA. Quite tasty.

I'm with all of those who are not generally wowed by triple IPAs. Despite that, The Miser was incredible. Worth checking out, even if you are a triple IPA curmudgeon.

I'm assuming Rip Current's is more like barleywine? Still intrigued.

I agree when considering drinking IPA's on a regular basis. I find these TIPA's more fun to try on occasion.

Is there a reason why a lot of breweries are spitting out their TIPA's this month?
HoF, PP, EH, Miser, PtY... Midnight Sun's Gluttony...
I even saw a pub nearby Bootlegger's get a keg of their TIPA today as well.

Simtra is my favorite, and Hoparillo isn't far behind (they're dated, but it can be hard to find sometimes).
Expo was very good, but I wouldn't go to great lengths for it again. I'd rather have Nelson, Duet, or PH.
Tioga-Sequoia's Tecumseh surprised me last year, and it's being released again this weekend.

I'm not a huge fan of TIPAs, but those are all good ones. The hops often seem to get lost in the booziness of the less balanced entries into the style. Most of the time when you get into the "TIPA or barleywine?" game, you've lost me. I do need to try PtY at some point.

Yes, there is; it's because PtY happens to come out this month. LOL

Hops of Fury is my favorite, although I've never had Expo and I didn't even hear about it Citra Yum Yum until just now. Will have to keep my eyes peeled for that one. Matter of fact, I think I'll swing by Beachwood after work and have myself a pint of HoF

They other posters were talking about two different Rip Current beers. In the Curl is a IIPA that's 10 percent abv and is brewed somewhat regularly. The current batch is really good. The Hop Wine Quadruple IPA was brewed once, for Beer Week last year, and was 16 percent abv. It was surprisingly good, very hoppy with a dry finish and dangerously easy to drink. It was also really good when blended with other Rip Current IPAs.

To add to this, I had mentioned Caught in a Rip as their TIPA, which much like it's DIPA and QIPA brethren, is remarkably dry and nothing like a barleywine. Rip Current does a great job at managing yeast health in higher ABV beers and delivering dry malt profiles over which the hops can shine. As big of a pain in the ass as Hop Wine was for them to brew, I hope to see them do something similar in the future.
