    Hey guys,

I'm heading to Buffalo in a week from CA and wanted to get some recommendations from locals.

I have this list from past threads:
    Bottles:
Premier Gourmet, Consumers, Aurora Brew Works, Transit, The Village Beer Merchant

    Bars:
Blue Monk, Mr Goodbar, Aurora Beer Works, Cole's, Pizza Plant

    Breweries:
    Community Beer Works

But there are a couple things I want to know that haven't been talked about.

    • Where to get some great wings in Buffalo to go with an awesome beer?
    • Where to get the best beef on weck?
    • Are there any solid more rare releases in the area I should keep an eye out for?
    • Will I be able to find Capt Lawrence sours? Any other local, semi local sour beers that I should get off shelves?

    Cheers!

    No, flying.
But I may bring a couple of bottles on Pliny or something to share with whatever beer dorks happen to be at whatever bar I happen to be at. Maybe.

    Where will you be staying?

    • Where to get some great wings in Buffalo to go with an awesome beer? Duff's if you like them spicy, Anchor bar if you like tradition. Most local pizza places should have decent wings.
    • Where to get the best beef on weck? http://www.schwabls.com/ I live around the corner...

    • Are there any solid more rare releases in the area I should keep an eye out for? I haven't been beer shoping a while but if there's something limited Premier will have it, ABW may have it (at high prices), same with VBM and Consumer's will be clueless as to what you're talking about.
    • Will I be able to find Capt Lawrence sours? The latest batch of Rosso may still be available some places but again I haven't been out looking.
    • Any other local, semi local sour beers that I should get off shelves? This is a joke right? Local breweries making sours? whatnonono.gif
We're lucky we have local breweries making something tolerable to drink. Ithaca White Gold maybe but I'm not 100% that's even sour.

There's been a ton of news of new breweries starting up here in WNY, most are just barely past ground breaking and I don't believe any are legally selling beer.
Stay away from Flying Bison (unless you like flat (in flavor not carb) uninspiring German style beers that all pretty much taste the same.
Pearl Street has a nice location but the beer barely makes it past average (unless something has changed in the last 6 months)
Buffalo Brew Pub will boggle you're mind in a bad way.

If you're looking for a nice local place for food and a nice tap list go to one of the Pizza Plant locations.
Ebenezer Ale house can been good for food but the taplist is often boring, service is often "relaxed" and the place is generally full of a happy hour crowd pounding Ultra.

I'm on vacation next week otherwise I'd say we could meet up for a beer somewhere.

p.s. I'm hard on the local "scene" if that's not evident.

    Embassy Suites on S. Elmwood.

    Duff's it is!

    Thank you!
I'll look at the Pizza Plant locations.

    Thanks for the info. Cheers

A warning with Duff's read what the menu/sign says they ain't lying. There's also 3 (?) locations the one on Sheridan Dr. is small but real close to premier and a better Consumer's store.

I completely echo what Sliverx said. He pretty much nailed it.

All that I will add is that Rosso E Marrone is still on the shelf at the Consumer's location on Sheridan Rd/Niagara Falls Blvd. $21.00 a bottle. It's behind the counter. You will have to ask for it. I don't know if there is a limit or not.

Ithaca's White Gold is definitely the closest thing to a sour we have locally (it's a brett beer). Had one the other night. It always surprises me how solid that beer is, and a 750ml brett beer for $8.99 is a steal.

A couple of stores have gotten in shipments of Crooked Stave stuff, but I have not seen much of it around. I can't help you there. Sorry.

If you are in a "fuck it" kinda mood... pick up a 12oz bottle of Captain Lawrence Liquid Gold. The recent batch if SUPER surprisingly delicious. CL IPA and IIPA are both old by this point, but worth a try if you have never had them.

Have fun on your trip. I'm busy all weekend, otherwise I would have tried to meet up. Cheers!

    - T

P.S. - Premier has Tilquin 750mls for $20, and 375ml 3F Golden Blend for $25.00... since you mentioned sour things. Cheers!

I'd like to piggback onto PeterWeller's questions with one of my own:

I'm in town for a wedding this weekend. Staying at the Hyatt Regency. Anyplace nearby that I could expect to find Flower Power?

    Thanks & cheers.

Unfortunately, you dont have much of a craft beer bar near your hotels...the closest places that are even remotely close by are McCarthys or Ulrichs...but if you are gonna trek out a little bit, then make a run down Elmwood to Blue Monk, Coles, or Mr Goodbar.

I figured this much. Probably will make it over to one or all of those Friday or Saturday evening.

Any good beer at the Buffalo Bisons' stadium? I think I may hit that up. Might even check out the Bill's preseason game.

I havent been to a game this year but they do have a 'craft beer corner' along the first base side where they will have Flying Bison Koelsch, Brooklyn Pennant Ale, Southern Tier IPA, etc...type beers.

If you are really desperate and hit up a Bills preseason game, dont buy tix...there are always freebies around town for it.

What days will you be in town? If I am around, I will gladly open up the cellar...

Cool. Yeah I'm not desperate. I would only go for free or extremely cheap.

I'll be around Fri-Sun. I'm in town for girlfriend's family stuff so I doubt I'd have time for even planning anything beer related, which is a bummer. I'd love to try some regional stuff that I wouldn't be able to find on shelves.
