cool, that's pretty much what I thought. my beer karma has been amazing this year though (meaning I've had just amazing dumb luck on all my previous business trips), so who knows?!

I just pretty much read the answers to my questions but I have to confirm:
So CC is not released at the brewery? I have to go to Toronado SD (I live in Los Angeles too) and drink the bottle at the bar? Can't take one home? And they are $60/bottle?!

Toronado is the only place you can buy it from..and yes only to drink on site in Toronado SD for the time being. Pricing varies but at least last year in SF, CC '13 was sold at that price

The price in San Diego will vary by vintage and who/when you ask. Toronado SD has many excellent qualities, but their vintage bottle pricing is not one of them. I haven't even bothered to ask about CC pricing in the last couple years, but expect it to be $60+ if you go to the release, and it goes up from there if you go for a vintage bottle. Last I recall reading in another thread, a bottle of 2009 was $200 +/- $25.

How long do bottles usually last at the SF release? Are they gone in like 30minutes? Or for example next day they are still available for on site consumption

They lasted for about 2+ hrs but mainly due to only having 1 line to ring up everyone. Not sure if they had any the next day for on site

One more question, since I'm debating on using this as a good excuse to go visit SF, Capitola and Santa Rosa: how is the release handled? Is it a classic camping event that is announced like a month or two weeks earlier?

Cramped event that usually is announced a few weeks before the date.

Last year there was a week's notice. Year before it was day-of. Previously hasn't went on sale till 6ish, so last year folks showed up early and hung out at the bar.

I could swear I remember reading people talking about how DDG is lost abbey most expensive beer. Anyways... I guess CC isn't on the trade forums too often since it's impossible to have a bottle outside of Toronado?

Edit: wait a minute. It's all over the trade forums. So if you can only get it and drink it at the bar then how do people have bottles of it to trade?

Toronado SF = to go on release date
Toronado SD = in house only

    Reading the thread helps sometimes.

You could actually make an argument that the Track Set were their most expensive beers given that they were $450 for 13 - 375ml bottles.

I remember bottles being $40 each in 2012, limit 2 to go. Quite a jump.

I went to Toronado SD in early September and they didn't have any. Though perhaps they pull them from the cellar and out them in the fridge whenever they feel like it.

At Toronado Sd, it will depend on which bartender is working or if the owner is there from my experiences. They always have the bottles there in the cellar, I just think they have limits on how many they let go each month/week and not all bartenders have the rights to say when/how much. These opinions are based on my personal experiences with no feedback from anyone working there.

Should be soon. Last year they released on the 17th. Still coming.
There are guys locally that tend to get inside info. Hopefully they share. :-)

I'm going to SD on Sat. Will definitely check it out. Let me know if there is a secret password I should say to the bartender
