Anyone opened Cable Car lately? It's my impression that this beer is better when relatively fresh, but I haven't had any fresh batches since 2010. How does the 2012 stack up? Any thoughts on the various vintages?

I haven't had a ton of experience with Cable Car, but I can tell you that when I've had aged batches they've been excellent. It probably won't hold up too long, but I'd expect 2012 to go for at least a few years.

(If you want to know which is my favorite, I think 2008 drank in 2012 has been so far, though, as I said, I haven't had them all that often.)

I had an '09 a few months back & it was magical.

That's great news, I'm holding onto an '08. I might just have to open it soon

I've had 09 and 12 this year. In my opinion ~"fresh" (12) was delicious as hell, but with age (09) blew any beer I've ever had out of the water.

Aged Cable Car is the best American wild ale I know of. It's good fresh (and I've had it fresh several times), but I've never had it too old.

07 didn't hold up, but 08 with a couple years on it was great (haven't had it since 2010 or 11 though), and 09 really shone with a couple years on it (haven't had it in a year or two however).

Not to derail the thread, but what type of beers would it take to acquire an 09, 10, 12 CC?

whales, bro. consulting the white whale list would be a start. realistically they take equally rare beers. the white whale list could help you figure out what you have that's in the ballpark. good luck!

Thanks. I looked at that. I might wait until the next Whales List comes out. I feel like it gets outdated pretty quickly. (Eszette, Mimosa, KBBS, PvW Black Magick) Many of these are not on it,(or pretty low) but probably should be now. I may give it a shot in the next few weeks. Thanks for the advice.

I agree, 2009 and CCK are drinking the best right now.

CC 12 is sweeter than 09 in my book. I love sweet than dry note in sour beer so I prefer 12.

Thought I would resurrect this thread. I would love to crack a CC for my 40th this year in August and would love some guidance on which vintage I should target. Any opinions or thoughts on which vintages may or may not be holding up would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Had the lineup during SF beer week. 07 & 08 are over the hill, 09 was my favorite but is on the edge. 2012 was the next best. 2010 was great but highly citric and quite different from the others. 2013 needs a bit more time but would likely be good to go by August, I'd skip 2014 for a year or two.

What jedwards said below. Avoid 07 and 08 like the plague - they are just not good at this point and require a ridiculous amount to trade for. 09, 10, and 12 are all great, with the general consensus that 09 is the best. I had 12 and 13 side by side recently and 13 and 14 side by side as well. It's strongly 12>13>14. 14 is still great though.

    In summary (roughly): 09>12>10>13>14>08>07
(note that I have not had 07 and 10, but just going off of what others have said)

i had all of them at the release last year, 10 was my favorite, but its a close race. 12 is doing fantastic, i wish i still had some of those left.

id say the 12 should be hte easiest to get, and its tasting fantastic! toronados sf let a ton of those to go. i had 8 bottles at one point. the following year the price jumped 50% and the limit was 2
    good luck!
