I was lucky enough to try this beer the last time I was in SF, it did not disappoint. I was wondering if anyone had any info on the beer itself, beside being barrel aged, expensive and maybe overrated (depending on who you are). Meaning what makes this beer so special? Barrels, blending, fermentation etc? Thanks
Had one at a bottle share this summer. The price over the bar was $65, in Seattle. Very nice beer indeed.
I believe all 3 Toronado locations receive allocations. Could be a few other places as well, but I'm not sure. Like beertunes said, $60-65 over the counter/bar. But yeah, still super low bottle count, not made often, barrel aged, sour, Lost Abbey's pricing. Etc.
Huh okay. So it's really only the rarity that drives the price up like that. That's a little disappointing. Good beer none the less, not sure if it's worth the money. I guess I hoping for some exciting blend or spontaneous fermentation or something.
Heavy on the brewing science side of things: http://www.themadfermentationist.com/2007/11/anatomy-of-clone-lost-abbeys-cable-car.html?m=1
Cable Car is always super delicious, even though there are slight differences year to year. Quite difficult to achieve that type of consistency, in terms of Deliciousness through out the years. However, it's this quality that makes Cable Car the perfect beer to symbolize the longevity of Toronado's greatness!
