Cafe Royale, better than last year?

    I know I know the first time ever on BeerAdvocate that a beer from the current batch is better than the previous, but damn, this stuff is drinkin sooo good! Cheers to Geoff and Alewerks for brewing a kickass -bal coffee stout! Silkier, smoother, and sexier than I remember this beer at any age.

    They also have some at Grape and gourmet in Va. Beach. Had some tonight at the tasting.

    Shhhhhh shhhh. Let's keep this beer in Va.! My buddy is going to the brewery this weekend and is going to pick me up a couple. I hope it lasts that long. I know when I went down to pick up BB Porter I got the one of the last 3 cases they had. Oh and all their "low fills" :wink:

    Hey, as long as people try it and enoy it, it's all good. G&G also has St. Bernardus Christmas. Grabbed me a bomber of that.

    Was just at the brewery last night, and picked some up with another BA. The price is $9/bottle, and they are limiting it to 4 per person. There was maybe 10 cases left when we headed back to Richmond, so I doubt this lasts past the weekend. When we walked in they had just put a keg of it on tap, and I felt this batch was better than last year. No worries though, another batch is being brewed now. Also, we talked with the brewer and the distributor had just come to pick it up for distribution. I'd expect to see it someime next week for NOVA. Of course, given the way Hop and Wine treats RVA, not sure when we will see it, or how much.

    Doesn't it spend time in a barrel and so can't just be brewed so quickly?

    Yes I believe this batch spent 5 weeks in the barrel, so it'll be a while til it's ready again.

    this batch spent quite a bit longer in the barrels than 5 weeks. Cafe Royale is brewed immediately after bourbon barrel porter is removed from the barrels and then Cafe Royale goes into those barrels. it's been in for at least 3-4 months. the next batch is going into the barrels next week when the new batch of bourbon barrel porter comes out. the next batch of Cafe Royale will be in barrels until mid-late spring and that will be the 2nd release. this was all explained to me today at the brewery when i picked up a case. there were only about 6 cases left.

    Yeah I dont know why the hell I wrote 5, maybe I was thinking months, I think their facebook said 12 weeks in the barrel. Im a dumbass. But, once again, this years batch is real friggin good.
