Is there caffiene in hops? I ask because I get insomnia a lot when I drink beer.

    Cheers!

Nope. Alcohol raises your internal body temperature, which keeps you from sleeping.

Well it does that too, but it also decreases circulation, pulling heat away from your extremities.

Thats literally the opposite of what happens.
It dilates your blood vessels, meaning more blood is going towards your extremities. With more blood in your extremities, you are radiating away more heat, and thus your core body temperature drops.

Your extremities do become warmer, as blood flow to the surface of your skin increases. On the flip side, your core body temperature drops as the blood is radiating more heat away from you. The feeling of warmth you have is the heat leaving you.

I didn't post the link because I was calling you an alcoholic. I posted it because it talks about alcohol and sleep.

Hops can be used as a sedative so they have the reverse effects. Some sleeping aids use hop oil extract as their active ingredient. Also, I've heard that the aroma of hops can help you sleep as well. They recommend putting a bag of hops under your pillow when sleeping. So people mention having really crazy dreams when doing this though. :astonished:

As for smoking hops, I've heard its not very pleasant but to each their own.

The only thing smoking hops remedy is a lack of headache and a lack of coughing fits.

I've also heard of and experienced the sedative effect of hops. Highly hopped beers tend to make this old man pretty sleepy. Of course it could just be the sheer number of said beers, but I digress.
