Hey guys, Passing through Calgary tonight on my way to Vancouver. Is there any must-see bottles shops? Must-visit beer bars? Also, if anyone is looking to trade, I have some Bruery and HF stuff. Hit me up!
I'm not going to be working there tonight but the Kensington Co-op has a massive well stocked beer wall.
Willow Park is the always mentioned bottle shop in Calgary but I personally find it to just be mediocre. You're more likely to find some gems at Zyn in Inglewood. For the most inclusive selection, I'd pay a visit to @wordemupg at Co-op Kensington, the beer fridge there is not at all what you'd expect from a Co-op liquor store. As for beer bars, Hop In Brew Pub has a very cool atmosphere but a pretty limited selection, you'll likely find at least a couple "good enough" beers there though. Best selection IMO is at Beer Revolution and you can always check what they have on their website before you go.
About 50% of the time it is, always rotating though. Certainly a better atmosphere than any of the Nationals.
Oak and Vine on 16th Ave. has also become quite superb, they get in many rare brews and new stock every Monday. P.S. - Edmonton ... NOT a better beer scene than Calgary. Dude's crayyyy...
Looks like there's a new-ish growler fill station on 17th Ave, anyone check it out yet? I'd say Co-op Kensington, Oak & Vine, and Kensington Wine Market are still the most worthwhile bottle-shops and they're all pretty nearby to one another Unfortunately the bars with the best selection are still probably Craft, National, and Beer Revolution. Hop In if you're looking for a more interesting atmosphere.
For the inside skinny National on 8th will have the best tap selection there is 2011 barrel aged Peche on tap and other way cool stuff left over from a tap take over event and some other cool left overs from a Boulevard event. National on 17th normally has the best selection. Beer Revolution tap menu is always updated on line so you can look before heading out to the pub.
